Glomerulus Question

Case scenario 1:

What would happen if the afferent arteriole of the glomerulus were blocked?

Case scenario 2:

What would happen if the efferent arteriole of the glomerulus were blocked?
 
You would die? lol But i know that if GFR isn't high enough then the afferent renal arteriole will dilate which decreases resistance increasing blood pressure. If that isn't enough to raise GFR then renin then angiotensin is released to constrict the efferent renal arteriole.

don't you mean that the afferent arteriole would CONSTRICT? Cause if it dilates, it is decreasing the B.P. So if the afferent arteriole constricts, it increases B.P. and forces blood through the glomerulus for filtration. I think that is.

mmmmm i just double checked this in my bio textbook (the science of biology 6th edition). you don't want to constrict the blood going into the glomerulus because then less blood would get into the capillaries in the glomerulus which would further decrease the blood pressure. You do however want to constrict the blood leaving the glomerulus because that will increase the blood pressure. Think of it like a hose. If you bend a hose (which is like constricting) the pressure builds up in the area before the kink and not after.

However angiotensin will cause overall constricting of peripheral blood vessels all over the body which will increase central blood pressure. I think the biggest thing is you don't want any resistance going into the glomerulus. Feel free anyone else to chyme in.
