ok so im taking this class and I thought I could pull of a B, But the prof is really rude and he does not help his students. he sent me an email that said "idk lol" when I asked him something that he went over in class. he is very rude. It looks like I will get a C or D. What should I do? continue taking the class? drop the class? take the class but retake it next summer at a different school? any suggestions or advie on how to deal with profs like these would help. thanks (also he does not curve at all)

Is it a pre-req? I'd study and try to pull a B.

No, its a crapy class that should be easy, but the prof is making it difficult. the way he grades is stupid and im looking at a 77 right now if I can get a 100 on his 10 essay final due 2 weeks from now.

if you're comfortable, disclose your school. school-specific answers may be more useful for you.

i would strongly caution about taking it another school (med schools will see this and most likely will frown). if you drop (which I assume means a W grade), be sure to have a good reason that you're getting the W (and a "rude" prof is not one). if you don't have a good reason, it may be better to stick it out.

do you know if other students in the class are doing poorly. at my undergrad school, only the physics dept did not care about their distributions; other depts forced teachers to have a "decent distribution"... which invariably ment a curve. (also, little known fact: most profs advertise that they "do not curve whatsoever" but it's still under their discretion and most do curve at least a little [again, usually b/c of the dept-mandated distributions]).😉

Try your best to pull it up. Don't drop it, b/c a W is a red flag on your app.

After an acceptance to medical schools, is it okay to have a W, or do med schools rescind their offers? I thought they do it only for D and F?

so i think a D is more of a red flag because it screws your gpa AND it is a D on your record. honestly just do whats in your best interest. one W will NOT keep you out of med school but a lower gpa may do just that.

That is already shows your attitude towards your class...maybe you should stop blaming other people and start taking responsibility for slacking off. You may think the class is a joke, but your prof has spent years to obtain a Ph.D on that subject!!!!! HE DOESN'T THINK IT IS A JOKE!

I agree. I had two or three W's and an NR and was not asked about them. Still--it's best to avoid them if possible, but I'd agree a W is preferable to a D.

On the other hand, it is of course still fair game to be asked to explain your W, so keep this in mind OP.

What kind of professor replies to an e-mail with "idk lol"?

First off, you dont know me. Second, its a community college so I doubt this prof has a phd. Third, I have turned in every assignment and he has now just decided to grade them after more than half of the semester has gone by. I dont slcak off, Im trying to get into med school.

I just checked...my prof does not have a phd.

Then he shouldn't be called a "prof", only PhD's are profs. Rather, he is an instructor. Still, how he replied is ridiculous and unprofessional.

wrong. you can have a phd and not be a professor... professorships are granted by institutions after years and years of publications. just because an instructor has a phd does not mean he is a professor.

Depending on the circumstances and how many W's on a transcript, I would by far prefer a W over a C acting like an anchor on my GPA.

if a C is an anchor holding down your ship (gpa) then a D is a nuclear torpedo wiping your ship off the map. a W is basically ... nothing .. it's a nuclear torpedo that was about to blow your ass up but was neutralized just in time.. it harmlessly knicks your ship as it passes by.
