I applied last year pretty late ( September-October 2012 to md and feb to DO schools) I ended getting many wait lists (over 5) and no acceptances.

My stats are LIzzm score of 65+ and a lot of extracurricular, good letters (nothing recent) etc.

Now I want to apply at least for DO schools but the thing is nothing really changed in my application ( no new experiences) and didn't retake the test. It is now August when I decided to buckle down and move on with my life.

Could I just go ahead and apply now for DO or anything else I should be doing to at least give me a fair chance and not being rejected?

Really Appreciate it, I hope I don't get mocked as everything I'm saying is serious and I know I'm waking up a little but life can have surprises.

I am sorry for the stuff you are going through. Thats definitely pretty poor to have happen...

Your MCAT and your grades are not the problem. If you apply to DO schools right now with the exact same thing, you will likely get an acceptance. What killed you last cycle was the fact that you applied when the cycle was nearly over. You are above or at the average for just about every school in the country.

Give us your list of schools and we can give the thumbs up and thumbs down to which ones you are good applying to or wasting your time and money at.

If you get this ball rolling very soon you will be in awesome shape and be in school this time next year.

Also which schools did you apply to last year?

Start on your primary NOW. Right now. Right this second. As soon as you're done reading this, get on AACOMAS AND GET THAT APP DONE! Its admirable that you are going to pick up and move on. Your GPA is pretty stellar, your MCAT is solid. If you're lacking clinical, find a DO and take your resume and a cover letter to their office. Its not late but time is ticking so get on it and see what happens. You've got this.

I can reapply without changing or adding anything. Same ps? I dont have any DO letters just md letters. Thanks

Do that. Forget everything else, and just do that.

Submit the primary and pay as soon as that essay is done. You can even edit your essay + extracurrics before you get verified. Your story is heartbreaking, but all it takes for an acceptance with those stats is to submit earlier & interview well.

You can get a DO letter to open up the number of schools you apply to, but shadowing a DO physician will also widen your perspective on the field. Any attempts to shadow should only be after you've submitted since you have such good stats.

Submit the primary asap, continue improving your ps until verification, create a list of schools to apply to, and start pre-writing your secondaries. Then focus on looking for a DO to shadow and continue with the app.

You can definitely get in! Just think you can put all this behind you and start school soon.. just gotta buckle down for the next couple of weeks. Good luck! 🙂

Submitted DO. Nycom and Tourocom (NY).
Should I bother with any NY md schools? I guess without retaking mcat doesn't make sense.

Even with your stats applying to only 2 schools is risky. Add several DO schools, if your undergrad GPA is a 4.0 and your MCAT is 28 you are very likely to be accepted this season.

what other schools can I add close to NY?

what other schools can I add close to NY?

Rowan in NJ
PCOM in Philly

If you're trying to stay Northeast and are willing to travel-UNECOM, LECOM in Erie is ~1.5 hours from Buffalo. If you haven't already get those apps in ASAP. Have you heard from either Touro or NYCOM?
At this stage in the game unless your AAMCAS is already filled out and verified it's too late in the game for MD. If it is verified, SUNY Upstate and SUNY Buff MIGHT be worth a shot, but that 28 is going to be tough. Goodluck, I hope your situation has been improving from your first post

I should also add-At this stage, as with last year applying later in the game is going to be the only thing that hurts you in DO with your stats. If you apply broadly this moment, and don't have a location preference, you will likely get in somewhere or multiple schools before the cycle is over. That said, if you are tied to NY or NYC for your kids and cannot leave for whatever reason, Touro has a Masters program with linkage into their DO class the following year if you do well. I believe this program is offered at both Middletown and Harlem but you will have to do your own research on that, as I am just going off what was discussed at their interview.

Is there a point of me applying to md schools now or its beyond late?

The possibility of being a re-applicant again. No one's gonna tell you 100% not to do it because it's your choice.

Schools may be curious as to why you apply so much later than everyone else; you could have applied months ago.

Seriously, learn a lesson much?

You are seriously doing almost exactly the same thing you did last year, apply way too late.

You come to figure out what was wrong with your app. Everyone says "you applied too late." You give it 4 weeks, then come on here and ask whether or not you should make the exact same mistake as last cycle...

Seriously, just wait until June 4th or whatever it is. You will have a darn near guarantee acceptance and to a much better school than you would get in to now.

If I would apply to only a few schools, I would only be a 2nd time reapplicant to those, right?

Doesnt exactly make you appear as the brightest bulb...

The thing is I have DO interviews for this year to the schools I applied to so I don't think I would be applying again as I rather just get in anywhere this year.
Furthermore my mcat was taken in summer 12 so most schools would NOT accept it after this year

The people that apply this late in the cycle with your stats are looked at as MD-rejects. Basically you put your nose in the air to applying DO, so you applied only MD, time went by and you got no love from the MD schools. So then you come back saying how you love DO (but you didnt apply early and you have no DO letter and have no real experience working or shadowing DOs). Its the same thing every year... even if you are not one of these applicants, thats what you will be seen as. So do yourself a favor and just wait until next cycle. Apply to both MD and DO in June.

Ahh i see... how many DO schools did you apply to? And when? I am confused on all this stuff..

So first cycle you applied MD, got no love, then later applied DO. This cycle you applied DO, so far have no love, and are now asking if you should apply MD?

The MCAT thing is a pickle...

Very few DO schools and was just recently complete

First, and probably less important question: Why did you apply so late two years in a row?

Otherwise, to answer your original question, MD is 100% out. Their cycle is just earlier, sorry.

You could add more DO schools though to your application. Since it is already complete it wont take long to verify new schools. You would maybe have a shot at some of the newer programs or those that are still offering interviews. Most of the really solid schools though have a lot of their seats filled and interviews are already lined up for months. By the time you get through secondaries and whatnot, it will be incredibly late.

But wait, I am looking up again through what you said... You said you were recently complete, but you have already had interviews with DO schools. You are not being clear here... Many of your posts seem to contradict each other.

I don't think there is any contradiction. OP applied late in a previous cycle and got no love. This cycle he/she has applied to DO programs and gotten multiple interviews. They are now wondering if they should add MD schools just to see what happens because they feel their chances at the DO schools they've already interviewed at are high. If MD turns out to be a no go as expected, they would just take the DO acceptance they're banking on and call it good. Worse case scenario would be that the DO interviews don't turn into acceptances either, and then they would be a reapplicant at those "hail mary" MD schools.

Correct?
