I just spoke to an undergraduate adviser about how many years it will take me before being able to graduate and complete my pre-med courses. It turns out that I can graduate from University within 4 years, but my MCAT would fall inthe year after graduating. Would going to a community college after graduation look bad? I can't afford to not be enrolled at least half time in order to keep my loans deferred, and feel like this might be a really goo opportunity for me to keep my job, build my extracurricular activities, and maybe learn something new.

what I've been told by an advisor is that if you take community college classes after graduating from an University that you would be expected to make As in the classes. In other words, they may not view those classes as rigorous.

I can't really speak to how taking community college courses will look, but I do know that from a practical standpoint, it helps keep your academic skills sharp. Learning is a skill that you have to continuously practice and use. Even while you are working and building your EC's, it's important to practice doing homework and reviewing notes and understanding concepts.

Now, with that said, I think that admissions committees will expect you to get A's in the courses you take because you have experience taking senior level courses while the most advanced level courses at community college will likely only be sophomore level. However, I think that taking classes after you graduate shows a commitment to learning and improving.

Classes I have taken at my CC have even tended to be more personal than my home institution. There are SEVEN people in my physics course. There is a lot of time for questions/reviewing of concepts. AND my professor was an MCAT physics teacher/tutor. SCORE!
I have had a great experience with CC's so far, and I am not ashamed of it.

Wow, that's really awesome. Is that something that you sought out or that he just told the class out of the blue? I've taken a couple classes at a CC and I think they deserve more credit than what most of SDN has to say.

I don't get it. You're going back for random classes to keep loans at bay? Totally fine.

I approached him one day after class and asked him about extra study materials for the MCAT, and he told me he was a tutor and that he would be happy to help any time I needed!
I definitely agree, I have had a great experience 🙂

ON AVERAGE, community college classes are not as rigorous. Which can be a good or bad thing. You can get easy As in the pre reqs, but the classes may not prepare you for the MCAT.

On average based on?

It really depends on 1) the community college, and 2) the university. There are some community colleges that are excellent academically, just like there are some colleges/universities that aren't so great academically.
