Hey guys. So I am fortunate enough to have multiple acceptances. Second look weekends are approaching, and one of my acceptances is paying for my entire second look and is close to home. This school however, is not my first choice and I don’t intend on attending (especially because my first choice school as of now offered me almost a full tuition scholarship). Does it make sense to attend this free second look weekend near my home? Do people usually attend second looks for schools they don’t plan to attend? As of now it doesn’t interfere with any others.

Thanks!

I would go because why not. You won’t get to experience it again so might as well. But that’s just me lol....especially if it’s paid? Hell yeah

There's a time to be a bit selfish and a time to be selfless in this very competitive process. Be the latter here. You have already secured a full scholarship to your first choice. Do the right thing and cancel the second look so that the school can offer the money to another who would seriously consider attending. Karma will reward you for it.

Don't waste your time and the school's money. Like dpmd said, unless you think there's a chance the second look could change your opinion, there's really no point in going.

It is travel, a night in a hotel, and more touring of the school and potential places to live. Not exactly a once in a lifetime experience you will be sad to miss.

While I am pretty confident in my first choice as of now, I am not 100% dead set. This wasn’t my first choice school going in, it is my first choice school among my acceptances. This is based on my limited view of the school during interview day and reputation. Let’s say this school also throws money my way, I may consider because it is close to home. I have not heard from their financial aid yet. Would it still not make sense to go?

Have you already attended second look weekend at your preferred school? If not, imagine you were not overwhelmed with your living options or fellow students -- unlikely, but possible.

Now, if this school were to also offer you a full tuition scholarship and you really liked 'second look' and your prospective classmates, would you then change your mind? If so, it's fair and reasonable to go. But if even that wouldn't be enough to change your mind, then it's really not completely honorable to take their money and your time for what is essentially a "nearly free vacation".
