Is it easy to get a dental billet in Texas?

Do you have to have an AEGD to get a billet in Texas?

Are dental credentialling tours available in Texas?

How are the dental clinics in Texas?

Thanks

There are no AEGD programs in Texas and the only two naval bases I know of in Texas are: Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Naval Station Ingleside. I'm guessing here but wouldn't think there is a huge dental force in either. Possibly a branch dental clinic? Best of luck.

i think Ingleside is slated to be closed before too long. also, the Navy AEGDs are located near major installations with high population densities. i doubt any Navy base in Texas meets those requirements. aside from that, if you join the Navy, why wouldnt you want to leave Texas and see the world?

Well, I'm not from Texas, so going there would be seeing a part of the world. I've traveled there a few times and liked it and was just wondering how I could get stationed there. Any idea how many docs are at Corpus Christi or Ingleside or if there's a dental branch in the Ft. Worth area?

You can search for US Navy base locations on www.navy.mil . As near as I can tell, there are four bases in Texas (including Ft. Worth), mostly air stations. As a new dentist, however, you will have to complete a residency or credentialing tour at a clinic large enough for several more experienced dentists to be available to oversee your clinical skills and development. Oceana (here in Norfolk) is a good sized air station and their dental clinic is small. I would think the detailer does not have an LT billet for one of those air stations in Texas and wouldnt send a first year dentist there if he did. However, nothing is lost by being persistent with the detailer about your desires for location; if you like where youre at, maybe youre more likely to stay in the Navy...and the dental corps would LOVE that.
