I'm trying to get my books lined up for studying eventually. I never found a source that I was comfortable with for biochemistry - and I really like RR Pathology, which made me think RR Biochemistry might be good but part of the reason I like it is the matching audio. How is RR Biochemistry with no audio to go along with it?

Seems good if you like the bullet style presentation. Text seems to cover most everything presented in the dense graphics (pathways, etc.) so you can pick which suits you better (or both, like me, 'cause I need to see biochem forty-three different ways before it sinks in).

But my biochem background is pretty weak, so I can't evaluate how thorough and "high-yield" this text might be. It's just a shortish read that will hopefully help bring me up to speed.

This is pretty much my take as well. I haven't used the book extensively yet, but when I do refer to it, it has the info I need very concisely, and has good clinical tie-ins. I think it might be hard to learn the info from scratch from this book, but this is what I plan on using to review after I finish our "big" biochem book.

I've also heard good things about the Kaplan biochem notes.

this will be my sole source for biochem as well. i heard the kaplan book is good..but im sticking with rapid review...just so much easier to read IMO. i guess because they present the info in a way that makes sense.

It was my sole source for biochem aside from First Aid (I used it to annotate FA). I had Lippincott's just in case, but never cracked it once. Rapid Review was golden and definitely covered all of the biochem that I needed and presented it in a way that even I could learn it. For my score and rest of my books, check out the official exam thread.

Could someone please provide some insight on which one is better to study biochem with, RR or Kaplan note?

I've a doubt if such an insight would be useful because I think there might be very low number of test takers that prepared with both sources.
Best way is reading chapters -that you feel you know good- of both books and comparing them based on your own experience.
