It's pretty messed up that if you go on to specialize in Geriatric medicine after you finish IM, you are penalized about 12 grand a year (according to the article).....

Most Western-style healthcare systems are facing similar challenges. The grass is always greener... A big part of the problem continues to be appropriate and effective patient education. Until patients and the public realize that we can't fix anything and everything that's wrong within a short time of presenting to the hospital, and that patient's are ultimately responsible for their own good health, these types of perceptions about the failing healthcare system will continue to grow.

Is there anything to be done or must we depend on politicians to change policies? Or would someone going into geriatrics just have to suck it up?
