I bought the Next Step CARS book and am disapponted. Some of the passages are really dense and majority of the questions are micro details within the passage. Before using this book on practice FLs I was getting 66-73% correct and AAMC official guide questions I got over 80% correct. But after a week and a half of CARS 108 book my practice test today I only got 52%! I feel like this book is training me the wrong way to approach this section. So what other resources do you recommend? Khan academy? TPR? EK 101? How are the AAMC question packs? Are they good practice even though they are from the old MCAT format?

I would say the best prep source for CARS were the AAMC question packs. I took them 2-3 times before taking the actual exam, and my CARS score went up about 4 pts on the actual one. But make sure to give yourself enough time to study this because it's a lot of questions (120 q's per volume). I suggest retaking/reviewing it multiple times. I think the AAMC materials are the best ones to prepare for the CARS section, but if you are looking for other prep company materials, I think TPR may be helpful.

I’ve heard the best book is the old TPR Hyperlearning verbal book. It’s hard to find for a reasonable price (don’t pay $200 for it), but if you find a cheap copy buy it.

The AAMC practice is the best, but they only have two question packs so you are somewhat limited.

This is going to sound like a joke but I subscribed to the Wall Street Journal and tried to read it every morning. Kept me informed and I found a lot of their articles shared features with CARS passages. Improved my reading comprehension and speed. Went from 127 on 5/13/17 to 130 on 3/24/18

I've been doing khan Academy CARS and its the best! Who knew something free would be better quality? I might also get the TPR hyper learning work book.
