Hello folks. Just wanted to get some opinions. I will be selecting my elective schedule for prelim medicine soon and was wondering what people thought would be good electives to take to help prepare for my pgy-2 ophtho year. My program only allows medicine subspecialties as electives (heme/onc, immuno, etc.) and no derm/neuro/rads/ophtho etc.

Thanks.

Then make it as easy as humanly possible. If you must suffer through an entire year of only internal medicine, then make it easier on yourself. In other words, allergy, GI, endocrine, rheum, etc.. No cardiology, hem/onc, renal, ID.

Rheum/GI may be helpful as far as uveitis is concerned and familiarizing yourself with the use of the immunosuppresive agents and managing patients on these.

IF you can do any subspecialty surgery like ENT or plastics, that would be worthwhile.

i agree. allergy and endocrine would be at the top of my list.
