good enough for NYU?

hey guys,

I've read conflicting info on GPA averages for NYU. Do you think I have a chance at applying now without having a completed degree, but working toward a biochem major? My overall GPA is about 3.13, and science is 3.03? I haven't taken the DAT, but assume I do well on it....

Where else could I apply with my gpa and lack of degree?

You'd probably need high 3's plus other stuff to get accepted after 3 years. It's worth a shot though!

correct me if im wrong but nyu demands a bachelors before admittance..regardless of gpa.

i just checked, and they say they'd give consideration only to those with minimum of 3.5 gpa if no degree has been achieved yet....

so i'm out i guess.

does anyone have any other ideas as to where I could apply as is? I'm a varsity athlete and class VP, and I've done research for a year... about to start dental clinic volunteering...

I just don't want to do an extra year if I can get into dental school before that....

i'm in NJ, working at UMDNJ, going to Rutgers. I work for the dean of graduate biomedical studies there, so I'll get a good LOR from him...


but still, my GPA is too low for UMDNJ, esp. without having a degree.

Finish your degree, your better off! Plus you would look pretty good if you got your degree while playing sports. ITs tough, but I think your best shot would be to get a degree, unless you get some ridicolous score on the DAT. What type of athlete are you??

I agree. So much rides on what you get on your DAT. if you get above 21, most schools would probably overlook some of your other shortcomings.

One more year to get a degree will open a lot of doors. Plus it will give you a chance to raise it a bit. I would beef up your application and try to get into a good state school. NYU is kind of expensive--I would only use it as a safety school.

i'm supposed to have about 100 credits at the end of '06, and graduate in '07. but i'm 22! i took time off and had an extra year of highschool in ontario.

i'm on our fencing team.

i think what i'll do is take the dat in a month or two, and if i blow it away, i'll apply then... it makes sense that otherwise i'll get nowhere and lose my money.

and yea, NYU is expensive, but my dad works in Queens at one of the hospitals, so I wouldn't have to worry about rent and stuff. Also, I am kind of disregarding the costs, cause I figure if I'm a dentist, i can pay any schools loans off relatively easily. Though I guess having half the loans to pay back would be sweeter....
