I get JAMA magazines and AMA emails.

Are there any other magazines or websites that show current medical news and discoveries?

Thanks.

I get email newsletters from the APA, Epocrates, and Medscape that do a pretty good job of keeping me informed. The only printed publication I pay any attention to is JAMA.

I pay more attention to NEJM than JAMA--that's where all the really big studies are published.

JAMA has some good studies every now and again, but you're pretty much right. I like the essays in JAMA, though. They're usually pretty entertaining and thought provoking.

I am a premed, take what I suggest with a grain of salt. Having said that, I subscribed to medscape and get their weekly emails. Maybe they are helpful to you, maybe not. I receive both "CME week in review" and "medscape week in review" emails. I find them interesting and i try to read them, though sometimes I have trouble understanding them, but I've learned new things. I suspect you won't have that much trouble understanding those cases. A sample of what they look like is below, the emails include topics all across the board and links to different journals.

+1 I have monthly sub's to Maxin and Sound on Sound -- proof that the world outside medical school still exists. Haha

I get emailed KevinMD's feed a couple of times/wk. It's a nice mix, includes one MKSAP style question and MedScape's top ten.

And I second NEJM, worth every penny for a student membership, you can set your account to email specialty-specific article updates as they are published. More importantly, their search feature is superior to JAMA's if you need an article on a specific topic. And their photo questions are fun, if impossible for me to get right most of the time.

NY Times health section has great stuff.

Mens' Journal beats the crap out of Maxim. You don't need to pay for pictures of hot chicks, you might as well pay for articles instead. But what do I know, I don't have a Y chromosome. 😀
