Hey, I have a couple questions for people who've been accepted into med schools about their volunteer experience, etc. I have pretty good numbers (38Q, 3.65 from Columbia U.) and a decent set of ECs. I volunteered for about 8 months in a soup kitchen, and I've been volunteering since January at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My question is, I'm looking to apply to some of the top schools (Yale,UCLA,Penn), but from what I've read, the people getting in have done some extraordinary things like working in clinics in Uganda and so on. Nothing I've done is that earth-shattering, so I was wondering if any of you who got accepted at some of the top-tier schools were in the same boat. Should I take a year off and get some more substantial clinical experience or do I have a decent enough shot to go ahead and apply?
Another thing...it looks like if I do apply, I'll have my AMCAS in by the end of June. I know it's important to apply early, but is late June considered late?
I don't mean to be the jerk who gets a 38 MCAT and is worried about getting in, but I've been reading through these posts and it's a little intimidating. I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys can give me, thanks!
