good non-MSTP MD/PhD programs in biomedical engineering?

this is directed both at current md/phd students and applicants from last year's cycle...

i'm planning on doing a biomedical engineering track for my PhD, so i've come up with a list of MST programs that have good BME programs. however, i know that there are other non-MSTP funded MD/PhD programs elsewhere that may also be very good in biomedical engineering. does anyone have any experience they could share about any specific schools? thanks!

I'm starting an MD/PhD at Dartmouth (non-MSTP funded) in biomedical engineering. The department seems very student-focused and they have some great researchers.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is an engineering powerhouse, and they have a very large entering MD/PhD class (Medical scholars program). Funding is a little odd, but worth checking out.
