Does anyone have a favorite flashcard sharing site that favors vet med? Also, I noticed that it is possible to import flashcards to iphones etc (which I don't currently have) Has anyone done this and do you feel like you get more study time in this way versus just studying on a computer or laptop? Do you find yourself studying while waiting for class or in line, etc., or does that just not happen? Up to now I have been just a traditional note/flashcard maker with liberal use of highlighters.

I wouldn't say that it favors vet med, but I like Flashcard Exchange (http://www.flashcardexchange.com). Really simple to make flashcards and I think you can even put images on them, but I haven't tried that yet. You can also share the cards you make and make 3 sided cards with this site. I have a droid phone with internet access, so I can just go to the website and study the flashcards that way, which I did do a few times while waiting for class/club meetings to begin, etc. I know some people in my class like iflipr (http://www.iflipr.com) but I haven't used that site, so can't really tell you anything besides that. Good luck :luck: Hope you find something that works for you!

I really like the StudyDroid app for android phones. I got the app in October when I got the phone, and though I don't use it a TON, I use it quite a bit to kill time (for example, while sitting around in doctor's offices, etc). It's especially nice because you can publish your flashcard packs for others to use, and I've found some other vet students have used it and made some (ie, origins/insertions/actions of forelimb muscles in the dog for anatomy), so you just have to download it and import it onto your phone.
It also allows images, which is cool.

Thanks,
I'll check those out....I may get an iphone as ATT has the 3gs' for $49!

AT&T is simply awful... Awful.

Yeah, be prepared to never have a signal. My husband has the iPhone, loves the phone, hates the service. We can't wait for the iPhone to release to other carriers.

AT&T is absolutely horrible. Even if you die, a family member can't terminate your contract without a fee. Absolutely ridiculous.

I really like Flash My Brain. It does cost money though. If you get the iPhone program first then it knocks $5 off the price of the program. You can download everything online. You can import the cards onto your iPod as well, though I haven't done this. The iPhone program would be the same on the iPod Touch. I've used it to load parasitology pictures (I had almost 300 flashcards for it) and it worked wonderfully with the Leitner memorization process option. I finished my practical first and did amazingly well. Currently I've got rabbit breeds, guinea pig breeds, hamster breeds, rat breeds, exotics ID, and tons more that aren't pictures.

One of my classmates used FlashcardExchange to do dog breed and cat breed flashcards. So pictures are possible on there!

Reviews for flash my Brain are all over the place. It seems it used to be very buggy. I am not great with tech....in your experience, are the bugs worked out? Also, do most people make their Flash my Brain cards public so other can use or modify them for thier own purposes? Is it easy to use and learn?
THX!

I haven't really had issues with it.

Well I guess one. A space (" ") accidently got placed before my username when I signed up and I couldn't gain access to it from the very beginning. They fixed it. However, the programme on my computer still has the space and you can't edit your username in the programme when uploading cards online. I have to edit the text data file to change my username to fix it every time I open it up. It's a pain and I need to e-mail them again about it since they never got back to me. I usually just use the online version anyhow so it's not that big of an issue. One of my classmates uses it too and has had no issues.

They did upgrade the programme recently. However, it changed the text style of the data file into an unreadable font. 😡

This isn't something I'd expect anyone else to have issues with. It's just my luck with all things techie. Electronics like challenging my patience (and go haywire when my extremely techie SO isn't nearby). My hypothesis is that electronics fear him and behave.

That is scary! My SO is even less tech savy then I am (hard to believe) so anything tech related goes haywire all the time at our place:scared:

For the iPhone/iTouch flashcard app, I looked into several and decided on FlashCards Deluxe. There's 3 different ways to make flash cards(excel and then upload from their website, quizler.com, and directly on the phone). The thing I really like through is there are three answer ratings-wrong, I sort of got it, and correct-instead of the standard right/wrong system. It also has the option to smart quiz, where it keeps track of what you get right and starts trimming out cards that you keep getting right.

My study group and I use quizlet.

http://quizlet.com/

Since some of us are iPhone users and some of us are Android users, so we each use our own apps, but get the flashcards from the same service. It's kinda nice before tests or when you have only a free minute or two. Making the cards is also a good review.

Quizlet....not quizler.....oops. Yeah, thats the site I'm using. Definitely convenient with an iphone/andriod app.

I think that the software called memorylifter (http://www.memorylifter.com/) is a wonderful application. It does have an iPhone version too. Memorylifter uses the Leitner Box technique of memory learning. This is where when you get a flashcard correct, it repeats less often then ones you get incorrect. In addition, you can add pictures, sound, and videos to the flash cards! I use it often. If you choose to use it, I suggest set the correct answer to "self-check" because if you originally wrote The hypothalamus as the answer, and then you answer hypothalamus, it will mark it as wrong.

Oh, the best thing about it... IT IS FREE!:soexcited:

BrainThud (http://www.brainthud.com) also free. They allow for large, detailed flashcards with text formatting and images. It's great if you need more than just one-liner flashcards. I use it for software programming flashcards so I guess it would be good for vet med too. Also works well on mobile devices.

My class had a Quizlet group. You can make your own individual flashcards and share them with the group too. We had hundreds of sets on there by the end of third year.

I don't know if it's my iPad or what....but it's simply not allowing me to register. :lame:

Hmm... odd. I was able to register and create cards. I see it is still in beta. Maybe that's the problem. Hopefully they will fix the issue soon.

Anyone have suggestions of good photo editing software for computer/mobile? I'm a flashcard person too, and am looking for a easy/quick way to make anatomy flashcards by adding text/numbers to certain muscles, etc. and then uploading to one of the flashcard apps.

Alternatively, any other suggestions for anatomy self-testing would be greatly appreciated!!!

What kind of mobile are you referring to? iOS, Android, Windows?

I have an iPhone and iPad and use the Photobucket app as my go to, but you do have to upload the photo to Photobucket to edit.

Picasa is another option, though I don't use it because it's not available for iOS.

I'm trying out Study Blue as a flash card app since I prefer text formatting, but haven't actually used it yet.
