Good Pharm Books?

Hey All

I am getting ready to start pharm next semester and I was curious about what books people had used/not used and which ones are helpful. I have heard that the Appleton and Lange pharm review is a good book. Someone also recommended the Mosby review book to me. Basically, I'm looking for a book(s) that would be helpful for the class and that I could bust through in a hurry when I'm studying for step one.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you all think.

Rang and Ritter Pharmacology, great book and illustrations. Also, Medical Pharmacology at a Glance is a really cool condensed review book. I've heard Lippincott's is really good too.

I used Pharm Recall and liked it a lot. The question-and-answer format makes it easy to read and you can get through the book pretty quickly.

I also used Lipincott to clarify some of our pharm lectures.

i like lippincott better than katzung. i don't bother with goodman and gilman's because it is too complex for what we're studying. unknow the ones listed in the poll.

Lippencott pharm is the most popular board review/course review pharm book around the country for med students. Which is why it was an oversight/error not to have it on the survey. Anyone can see that by going to Amazon and noting the sales rank compared to other pharm review books. Or better yet, ask around at med schools (but be sure to ask enough people).

Having said that, Katzung and Trevor's Examination and Pharm Review is an awesome book as well, and in some ways superior, some ways not. Its two big advantages over Lippincott are that it has many times more questions than Lippencott (and more of them are in vignette format like the boards) and it is a more succinct, ultra-streamlined text. The only two downsides are that it doesn't have as many illustrations like Lippincott (which are easy to comprehend and high-yield) and it doesn't quite stand alone to the same extent as Lippincott (since it was designed to complement the larger text by Katzung and doesn't seem to include all the information asked about in the questions).

Which book is better? You tell me. Many prefer Lippincott, but I've noticed that many of the hardcore students who have sampled both like Katzung's book every bit as well.

As far as Pharm Ridiculously Simple, it is probably one of the worst in the Ridiculous series, the Micro one being the best. I own most of the books in the ridiculous series except for the pharm and biochem ones, which are only so-so and definitely not up to par with other competing review books.

Pick whatever main text you want. Katsung has all the minutia. Lippincots is easy reading and presents the info very straight forward.

Just make sure you jot all your notes into your Pharm Recall (most high yeild book by far). Recall is essential as far as I am concerned.
