Any of you know of any good practice mcat materials? I have all of the aamc tests (III-VI), kaplan's workbook, EK Verbal 101 passages and ek's review books. I'm in desparate need of more verbal practice passages, since most of the EK VR101 is used up.

Thanks in advance,

Gold Standard isn't bad. Also, even though AAMC I and II are supposed to be easier, they still predicted my score well.

Hi SolidSnake,
You can buy the Columbia Verbal and Berkeley Review materials for Verbal. My friend recommended it and I am going to be using them for my practice as well.

Dr. Lady,
Have you taken a look at those verbal books? If so, are they like EK VR101 in terms of mcat passages or something different? Like could you compare it to Kaplans, PR?

Kaplan Verbal Section exams as well as the verbal in full lengths 6-10 is really great. Its very similar to the new mcats and also doing the verbal in 6-10 full lengths and aamc's 1-5 are enough to do well on verbal. Try the examkrackers verbal book before you hit any full lengths for some NICE STRATEGIES!!!

No, I am planning to get those books, but from what I have heard, Berkeley Review is quite good and much difficult than EK 101. I don't know much about columbia review, I guess when I start taking those tests, I will know.

Can you get these Berkeley or Columbia books from an online bookstore or do you have to buy them directly from them? I checked barnes & nobles and amazon and they don't have it.

Dr. Lady, are you taking a review course or studying on your own?

Sorry for all the questions.

For berkeley review, can't I just buy the verbal book alone or do I have to buy the set that comes with the writing part also?

Hi SS,
Ha, dont worry about asking too many questions..I just hope I can help. Ok, this is the thing. I am getting these Verbal books from a friend in couple days but he bought the Verbal books from the website. Looking from the website, I am thinking you will have to just buy the whole set. It is pretty expensive, isn't it? That sucks!

Yes, I am studying on my own and not taking Prep Course. To tell u the truth, I took the prep course before and it did not help much except give me great prep materials.

You have to buy both books, verbal and writing. BR doesn't sell individual books and they also rip you off on shipping.

Just pay the extra $40 and get 3 whole months. Well worth it IMO.

i was able to download all the revised aamc exams for free, but i couldn't get a hold of the answers and explanations. if anyone has them, we can trade.

How about PR Verbal workbook? Are they any good? Ans also, how about PR Science workbook?

hey you!
Yes, get those two. PR Science workbook is just amazing!

Here is the list of materials that are good prep:

-AAMC practice materials and all the tests ( I-VI)
-EK Review books ( bio is quite brief and so is some physics and chem. Should use them with pr or kaplan books as EK leaves out some stuff)
-EK 1001 series
-PR Review ( very good for bio as the books are very detailed)
-PR Science Workbook
-PR Verbal ( difficult tests for sure but great practice)
-Kaplan Materials
-Kaplan comprehensive Review
-Berkeley Review
-Columbia Review

optional:
-Kaplan workbook ( can be bought in B&N)
-Kaplan 45

Materials such as Arco, Flowers and Silver, etc don't have tests that are on the same difficulty level as aamc or real mcat. These books have quite easy tests.

Anyone can add more. But lot of threads that are being posted, one can do a search and find those threads that are relevant because these questions have been asked before.

🙂 Good Luck!
