For those that have used world, what review books did you feel either complimented or reinforced questions in the usmleworld 2ck bank? Thanks.

Well, first I reviewed Kaplan (notes and videos) and then did all of UW.

After that I did NBME 1 and wasn't too happy with my score. Went on to do ~300 questions from the new Kaplan Qbank... thought they were exquisitely hard and since I was running out of time decided to just go back and do the ones I got wrong on UW.

I also checked out Secrets. Read it in a couple of days, did NBME 3, and my score went up by 30 points.

So, it's very good but use it properly... go thru it after you have done more thorough studying with Kaplan, etc.

Step up to Medicine is also very good, but use it earlier in your studying. I used it during my core clerkship and it was very helpful. Unfortunately, I didn't get to re-review it during my actual CK studying.

(Can't comment on FA because I never got it but went to the bookstore and looked at the rapid review section at the end. Deja Review is so-so. I read about half of it. Finally, Goljan is pretty good but only had time to listen to about 3-4 lectures. Some of his lectures reminded me of his step 1 lectures and on the actual exam if step 1 material does pop up (just a few questions) it's manageable.)

Hope this is somewhat helpful. Good luck.

I took it yesterday and have no idea how I did. Could go either way. Felt better when I walked out of step 1 because I had more prep time.

How much time did you have to study for this exam? Also do you mind sharing approximately how many questions you did in a day? I am having difficulty doing enough questions in a day due to the fact that it takes quite sometime to read through the explanations from kaplan q bank and write down any info. i might not know.

I used FA and Crush- Crush I thought was a little superficial until I took the exam and it hit on a lot of real good points FA missed or didn't do as good of a job at. I liked them both- didn't do secreats due to time constraints, but I think I would have liked to have at least given it a look through if I had time.
For my money, crush seemed to complement UWorld the best-

Good Luck

FYI, crush and secrets are basically the same book (same author, almost identical material.) crush is larger, with lots of empty space and things written out in bullet point format. secrets is small, compact, and is mostly written in question - answer format.

I used Secrets and this book - Passing the USMLE: Clinical Knowledge. Relatively unknown, but I felt it was an excellent complement to Secrets - very concise, but hit the right points, good integration of pathophys, and lots of color pictures which Secrets notably lacks.

Would you recommend using that book (Passing the USMLE: CK) towards the early or later part of your Step 2 studying?

I'm currently going through Secrets and Boards and Wards. I have Crush so I'll go through that afterwards. I'll be using Step up to Medicine intermittently.
