I live up east, so I haven't heard much about midwest/west coast schools. I'd appreciate any advice on applying to the following schools:

Marquette, OSU, UMinn, UWash, UNC, USC, UCLA, UCSF, VCU, West Virginia U

Which ones are good? Easy to get into? Picky about residency? ... any other info would be great!

Haha, I was the opposite. From the West, and didn't know much about East Coast schools.

Can't help you too much, I'll say that USC is the most expensive school in the nation (interviewed there), and teaches its courses via a "Problem-based learning" method. This means no lectures, but rather, profs working with students to answer questions and scenarios. Think of it as a lab "case study" or something, where a professor would be a moderator of discussion as opposed to the traditional "teacher." This is how class would be on a daily basis. It's up to students to decide if this learning method is worth the money.

That's all I got.

Look into threads started by "doc toothache" to see where you stand as far as numbers go.

Add University of Pittsburgh to your list. They do not look at your state residency, everyone is the same whether you are instate or out of state to them.

West Virginia and UNC are very very competitive for out of staters. West Virginia has affiliations with some institutes and have some of their out of state spots already reserved. Add Nova to your list as well. I don't know about all the other schools you listed.

OSU is also very competitive when it comes to out of staters...they only interview 180 students total, where about 30 to 40 are OOS, and only 20% of the class is made up of OOS student. Louisville is really good for OOS...you have a good chance there

UW has a great clinical program. We have a diverse patient population that creates a great patient base. If you're interested in Pedo, we're just finishing up building a new facility in conjunction with Children's Hospital. We have a tight knit class that is very supportive, with D3s and D4s helping out the underclassmen. Additionally, we have very strong research programs, whether you're interested in simple summer research, year-long research, or a DDS/PhD. Also, Seattle is a great city to live in (albeit expensive).

However, UW is tough to get into from out of state, but we have students this year from NH, MI, TX, WI, and AZ so it's not impossible.
