I have a hard time with some lab values because I don't have a good understanding of the test itself. Any resources with good over views of different lab tests?

Umm, not that I use these, but just a quick glance at the online resources available to us, which might be available for you:
Differential Diagnosis--Laboratory Tests
MICROMEDEX: Select "Lab" from menu
A Manual of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests: via Books@Ovid
Interpretation of diagnostic tests: via Books@Ovid
AccessMedicine: select "Dx Tests" from menu
MGH Normal Reference Laboratory Values
The two bolded I looked at.
The first one basically seems like a comprehensive resource. Basically it'll give you the nitty gritty about every lab test. You could buy a hardcover if you so desired. It's on amazon.
The access medicine resource seemed more like a quick hit resource.

Is there any easy to use book on learning about laboratory tests and interpreting results?
Basically I'm looking for a laboratory version of something like Learning Radiology or Garcia's 12-lead ECG which are easy to read. Thanks.

2 resources that I have used that I find extremely useful:
1.) The Lange Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests - this gives you a brief overview of the normal lab value range and explanation of the test. If your school gives you access to AccessMedicine, this book is in online format on that website.
2.) Henry's Clinical Diagnosis and Management by Laboratory Methods - if your school has access to MD Consult, you will probably have access to this text. It is very comprehensive though, and should really only be used for reference when you really have no idea why a certain test was done or don't know how to interpret the results.
