Good thread in EM forum

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I guess it's more fun for the EM people because frankly it just doesn't strike me as wildly hilarious to say "nothing per vagina x 6 weeks."
🙂

I thought you all would appreciate the EM forum's thread entitled I Can't Believe I Wrote That about funny orders written. Needless to say, OB/GYN features very largely on the thread.

Actually, as I read further, I think it's entirely about EM-bound med students giggling about the word 'vagina'.

I'm with the above poster, and actually I thought some of those scenarios just sucked, like the one who came back with an ectopic - how awful....I do have a sense of humor, but I tend to be a bit more protective of the obgyn patients... oh well 🙂

If you are telling your patients "nothing per vagina times 6 weeks" or are writing "nothing per vagina x 6 weeks" you are grossly overestimating the intelligence of your patient base. Unless you've not noticed, "per vagina" means nothing to the patients, nor does "x 6 weeks" mean anything.

It ISN'T wildly hilarious, especially if it's the way you say it. It is MUCH more clear to say, "Don't put anything in your vagina, including a penis, for six weeks." Alternately, "No sex or other objects in your vagina for 6 weeks" is much clearer than "nothing per vagina x 6 weeks". Do you write a prescription for "NPV x 6w"? <-- now that would REALLY make sense to a patient.

But neither is hilarious any way you write it.
