Good Watches for Medical Students?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you see any hairs coming out of the gaps between the links? The watch slides right over them. Hope I'm not getting trolled...

I'm taking step in 2 weeks - believe me I have better things than to troll randoms on the intewebz lol. To me, it looks like some hair is jammed. Maybe its the lighting

Yeah I took the picture as the sun was about to set in an office building with the window facing east and the lights off... not the best lighting or quality.

This is my first "attending" watch - love the look of Shinola. I also love how watch snobs try and create a controversy around their branding. Who cares if it wasn't entirely made in the USA? Apparently Shinola employs several hundred people in Detroit, that's good enough for me.

Personally, I prefer something that is not flashy at all but still high quality. There seems to be this ridiculous trend of having huge watch faces which looks ridiculous to me. I like this Seiko for those reasons. It's boring, but it goes well with pretty much anything.

Hello! There are many many watches and places where you can buy it, for example, Ebay. I personally like some new Russian watches, like Vostok.

What is everyone's opinion of the Apple Watch as a medical student? Too much?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mondaine! They are clean, simple, cheap, and have that swiss reliability.

I often use an Apple Watch at work because I get paged all the time to my phone. The pages come through as texts. The Apple Watch displays the texts on my wrist and I can preview them without having to stop what I'm doing and touch my phone. I was skeptical that I'd like it, as I'm a huge watch snob with a collection of fine watches, but the convenience is worth it.
If I continue to use it frequently, I may sell the collection and get something extraordinary that would be inappropriate to wear to work. Of course, the average joe wouldn't recognize an extraordinary watch anyway.

What's your dream watch?

There are too many magnificent timepieces out there to select just one. For everyday wear it has to be sturdy and water resistant. Patek Nautilus comes to mind. Maybe an AP ROO, but that makes a big sporty statement. I like a simple Panerai for in water use.
For a dress watch, the sky is the limit. Laurent Ferrier is good choice. ALS Datograph is a current dream www.ablogtowatch.com/lange-sohne-datograph-watch-review/amp/

No amount of bodily fluids can damage this watch.

For pre-clinical years I kept a <$20 watch from Amazon in my H&P bag. That way I could never be dinged points for being without one.

So far on rotations I've been using my Apple Watch and it works well. It has a second hand, which is all I really need for H&P-wise, and I like having everything else it does with me too (mostly the fitness tracker, but getting email/texts without pulling out your phone is handy too).

Bumping this thread. Currently shopping for a nice watch, anyone have any recommendations? Budget is between $1k-$2k and looking for a brown leather band strap type.
