I got B's in chem1/2 and ochem 1/2, im going to med school.

Apparently B's are the new F's...
Clearly not good enough for med school. I recommend nursing. You know DNP is the new MD/DO.

Yeah I would retake it. Also retake every B you ever make in college and stay there an extra 2 years. It will be good for your app.
Really, going to the Caribbean isn't all that bad!! You get to sit in the sun while going to medical school, I mean who else gets to do that? Plus, I hear they have tons of pizza over there.

Just do what I did and get an F or two, ideally in something stupid like astronomy lab. I really doubt adcoms will care about the B's that I got!

B's are actually much worse than F's. When you get an F, at least you can say you weren't trying or had other issues. With a B, all you say is that you aren't intelligent enough to get an A when you try. How can someone with a B in chemistry be accepted into medical school? Obviously knowing how to balance a redox reaction or set up an electrolytic cell are crucial to every day medical practice. It's time to venture into the Caribbean, OP.

It's very easy to get into the mindset that if you can't get A's in college how will you get into, much less pass, medschool. Happens to a lot of people, don't worry, plenty of people get A's, B's, some C's, and even...gasp...the occasional D & F and can still get in and do well. Keep on truckin' and don't look back at that nightmare that is gen chem again until the mcat.
Ah thanks guys, I saw the grade this morning and I freaked and my first reaction was to go on SDN. Looking back at it, it was premature and I can tell how it would seem like a troll post. I'm a freshman, it's the first B I've gotten, I'm disappointed, but I guess it's just a part of the college experience.
One thing's for sure, I'M ABOUT TO KILL ORGANIC!

Well it depends on a lot of factors like your MCAT and ECs, which can get you past a lower GPA. But the average cGPA for accepted applicants is something like 3.65. Traditionally you'll take 40 classes as an undergraduate. That's like, what, 25 A's and 15 B's?

So basically 10 classes a year, and 2.5 classes per semester right you have to schedule for college?? I'm In high school btw.
Retaking a B is a waste of both time and money. I pass/failed orgo II this semester, and even though I got a B, I decided to uncover the grade because it's not worth it to take it again and spend all the time studying for that class (and believe me, it was A LOT of material) after paying for it and getting a B. Just take the next class in the chem sequence and try to get an A, retaking the same class again will be pretty painful. If you had a C or C-, then maybe I would retake.

Haha I wish. Classes go by credit hours. 12 hrs is considered full time. A 15 hr schedule for four years will get you completed in the "normal" four yrs. that means you have 15 hrs of classes per week. 9 on mwf and 6 on t/th for example. Doesn't seem like much but you have to factor in studying, projects, other commitments, etc
Wow, OP, ignore the trolls. I got a B in Chemistry and am not the least bit worried. You do know the average undergraduate GPA for an admitted med student is 3.6-3.7, don't you? Chillax. I got a B in Chemistry and earned a 88.5 on the ACS final chem exam - that was much higher than my class. I may have accidentally slept through a test...whoops
Furthermore, many med schools will average together the grades for the classes you retake, e.g. if you retake the chem class and pull a 95 when you earned an 84 previously your new grade is an 89.5. Pfft, not even worth it.

Did the B end up being damaging to your med school application?
OP's status still = pre-med. Clearly this means a single B in chemistry will doom your chances. Better luck next time people with a B
