Got an interview: How do i explain one D? (GPA 3.4, OAT 320)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hmm.. I would tell them the truth depending on the situation. But also emphasize how you learned from the mistake and will not repeat it again while in optometry school.
What schools are you interviewing at? Out of the three schools I have interviewed at (NOVA, Indiana Unv, and Ferris) only Indiana really drilled me about grades. The other looked at my grades as a whole and never mentioned anything in particular. At IU they pick on your weak spots on purpose to see how you handle these types of situations. They usually can smell a BS answer...lol

Good Luck! 🙂

I think that if you show that it will never happen again, explain a little, you should be fine.

When did you apply? and to where?

I applied to 4 schools. This interview is for ICO. Ive never gotten any C's or anything. just one D.

Let me tell you about my situation:
I BOMBED Organic Chemistryt in my second year (D+ 1st semester and a D second semester) my first two years of university was a wash (2.7 GPA) I did not have the maturity nor the dedication to be a serious student (also I discovered XBOX and PS2 and parties after highschool) I then saw a workplace accident during my summers working construction that really changed my opinions on university education. I switched schools and worked my tail off I got a 3.63 cGPA over my 3.5 years at a different school and I did well on my OAT 350AA/370TS. Now when asked at my interviews I explained this story to admissions.....I was honest and I was straight, and Ive been invited for interviews to all of the schools that I've applied too (8 of them) and accepted to the schools that I interviewed at (3 of the 8). If my FIRST 2 YEARS haunt me, then a D in one course should not be a big deal to you, tell them what happened, be honest, and work harder to offset that D, its not really a big deal everyone has issues at one point or another in their university education
