I know, I know, this is posted all the time... but it is nice to hear some thoughts on this. All my grades were my average, exactly how they always are. Except Microbiology. I got a 1.8 (about a C-) in that class this quarter, making my quarter GPA a 3.16, cumulative a 3.42. If you count my transfer GPA (which includes the first years of calculus, biology, and general chem), it'll be about a 3.5. I know that's a good competitive GPA, but will this one class be something that needs explaining?

I noticed that every other class went exactly how it always go, making this seem like a freak incident. It was also upper-level Microbiology.

I haven't taken the DATs yet, so yeah, it's hard to say how competitive I'll be. But I think this freak incident (assuming it stays that way) won't hurt me in the long run. Is it ok for me to think this way?

Thanks for any comments on this...

Haha,

I got a D- and C+ my freshman year and even with that I still got into almost every school i applied to. So chill don't worry too much.

I agree. It may come up during interviews, but just explain that you underestimated the amount of effort required to earn a good grade in that one particular course, and the point out that it's obviously an anomaly given your otherwise-excellent GPA. It's all about marketing! 😀
