Applied to Dental Scholars at Rutgers GSBS with the following stats:

AA: 20
TS: 20

oGPA: 3.1
sGPA: 2.95

And 1000+ hours of dental experience.

With all of that, I got rejected (though I did apply in mid-June and deadline was July 1st). Were my stats not good enough for this SMP? If I can't even get into an SMP, how am I supposed to get into a dental school?

Did you apply to dental schools too?

Hey, really sorry to hear that.

A lot of programs opened up in the winter already so unfortunately, you applied very late, as spots were already full. There may be post-bacc programs and other programs accepting applications.

Keep your head up!

It could be for a few reasons. 1) timing of your application, 2) your stats seem decent and they might have a feeling that you'll get into dental school somewhere (overqualified?), 3) this whole process is 1/2 luck so don't get your hopes down!

Is it worse to fail at something or never attempt it in the first place?

I submitted to AADSAS nearly 2 weeks ago; only thing missing are my LOR's, which are going out this week. I also applied to Barry and Midwestern's SMPs and haven't heard back yet (those were late apps too). I'm concerned that whatever reason Rutgers had for turning me down will hold true for the other programs as well...

I'll agree with others that your late application was probably the main reason. Did you apply equally as late to the other programs? I would just sign up for post-bac classes and wait out the admissions process for this cycle and see what happens.

You could try applying again for the spring semester but apply early!! There's no reason you shouldn't be accepted to an smp with those stats you provided.
