nope. i applied to UMich and haven't heard from them yet but I think they screen, or at least that's what I've heard.

Grrr I want my Michigan Secondary! AMCAS has been submitted since June, I'm in-state, and some people are already getting interviews! I'm about ready to driive down to Ann Arbor and see what's up.

C.2 ESSAY. At the University of Michigan Medical School, we are committed to building a superb educational community with students of diverse talents, experiences, opinions, and backgrounds. What would you as an individual bring to our medical school community? Do not exceed 250 words (If they wish, MSTP applicants may simply write "Please refer to my MSTP essays.").

I hate questions like this because I'm not special.

Funny, they had the exact same question for their undergraduate application, except it was "undergraduate" instead of "medical school"

Does UMich screen?

Also, any one heard from Tufts?

1. UMich does not screen pre-secondary
2. Schools send out earlier secondary notifications to those who applied earlier. If u submitted your app in june, you shoudl wait 3-4 days after u first start hearing that the secondary is available

I'm sending my request to my school to send out the LORs IMMEDIATELY! I can't believe that kind of deadline. Lots of schools have a deadline in November, December or even January!! What's the point in a deadline like this? 30 minutes for three essays? I thought I was quick with Yale's one essay by only spending an hour on it. 🙄

anyone have the essay prompts?

I'm so sorry to inform you, but you will not be getting a UMich secondary.

 😱

You will be getting an auto-invite. 👍

how long did it take after recieving their email to check your status online to get approved for your secondary/get an invite?

actually they never sent me an email to check my status online. But on the status page, it says they recieved my app on 7/11

I was wondering on average how long each of you will take to fill out your secondaries, at least the harder ones that ask you some questions...

More importantly, how many weeks can you take before med schools notice and think twice about sending you an interview? Anything more then 1 week? 2 weeks? A month?

This would help a lot guys!

Thanks

I got the Univ of Michigan 2ndary today

I'm right there with you, Dajimmers. In-state and hoping to hear soon. Chin up. We should hear from Umich very soon. 😉

We in staters better hear soon. I getting impatient.

i just spoke with the office of admissions at jefferson, and the woman was very nice and knew all about the problem. she said that they 'are having some technical difficulties' but assured me that it would be fixed by 'sometime later today' and would be available for use.

breath easy everyone, this will all be over at some point (fingers crossed!)....

the link that they sent me is now working. the app is really simple, and has only the following essay question:

7. If there is any additional information you would like to provide please include it in the box below. (*** Please limit your response to 500 characters and do not cut and paste. ***)

the app fee is $80

Did anyone else get the e-mail from Columbia clarifying that the 2 week turn-around request is just a guideline, not a hard-and-fast deadline? Good thing, since I don't intend to send it in for about a month. It really sucks having to explain how I'm spending my year off if I don't know yet (no job yet after I finish my summer job). Plus, my new volunteer gig doesn't begin until the end of August (b/c of their training schedule) and I don't want to put it on secondaries until I've actually started.

Do you think I could send some secondaries in explaining that I'm still job-hutning, and then send an update letter once I choose a position? What do you guys think? Would it be better to just wait?

Is teaching for KAPLAN valid to put into secondaries, as far as "what have you done since college"? I dunno why it feels a bit weird to put it in, but it feels like im saying "Hey! Im teaching the next round of applicants easy ways to go around and *cheat* on your standarized exams!"

Any thoughts? :meanie:

just got this from Albany: recieved my amcas, secondary available in a "couple of weeks" ... :luck:

Officially recieved secondaries from:
Temple --- submitted
Medical College of Wisconsin
Albert Einstein --- submitted

Submitted secondaries w/out "official" notice:
SUNY Upstate
SUNY Downstate
SUNY Stony Brook

This is a totally valid activity to list on your secondaries. I don't think it seems like teaching applicants to *cheat* at all... Its studying. Don't feel wierd about it.

Is the Jefferson optional question 500 words or 500 characters like for AMCAS?

I got Dartmouth's secondary in the mail last night. 🙂

I shouldn't have complained about not getting the Jefferson email the first time around. This time I got 3 copies! 😛

hey t-storm: i'm in a similar boat....i have had a research job for the last year and wrote about it in my primary....i applied for another research position and will hear about it in late august/sept.....i will also start my ER volunteering in august.....my plans are to discuss my "plans" and then send an update later later.....i'm also going to request that schools wait (to reject, esp 😛 ) until after they receive my august mcat scores. good luck!

I was thinking the same thing...we've been waiting way too long for this email. Thank goodness it was a short secondary. 👍

I'm getting really paranoid about my spam filter. I've gotten secondaries from GW, GU, UPenn, UChicago and Yale just fine... But I still haven't gotten Northwestern's! And i am itching to get it. (not that I don't have enough to work on as it is.)

Dartmouth's says type or word process onto the secondary...

How would u guys do this if you dont have a type writer?

i think it's a little excessive... i may just write on it.

i have a similar question regarding tulane's and all those that use pdf instead of typing onto the internet boxes....

do you just print on labels and stick labels on, nicely of course, but the paper wont match..

what have you guys done?

visit the secret link they give you, and you can enter it online and print it out. i doubt anyone will actually bother to line up the printing and print it on the green papers they provide, far too difficult. in fact as soon as i found out the secret link i got rid of all of the snail mail junk they sent, its useless.

The pdf for tulane is interactive so you can type into the boxes directly. If you have the standard (not free version) you can save what you type on it.

Did people receive Secondaries yet from Drexel and Penn State? Could you PM me if you did. I haven't yet, and a PA resident here. I hope both of them don't pre-screen.

Thanks so much.

Go to the online version of Dartmouth's application. At the end, you choose to print it out in Word RTF format. No type writers needed

Hey, Drexel doesn't screen and they send out secondaries via snail mail (hence the length of time). Penn State don't screen either but I am not aware of the mode of trasport for their secondary.

Excactly. And why would they send us that dark olive green paper to fill out anyway? Can they actually make legible copies of that form? I threw their snail mail stuff out too.

Are you done with their secondary already Shredder?

just received Jefferson secondary apps through email. Glad to know that it doesn't require any essay.

UCSD's secondary is finally uploaded & available if you've gotten the "approval" e-mail - just thought I'd let y'all know.

Has anyone heard anything from Colorado? According to other threads, their secondary was already available at this time last year for last year's applicants.

I just got notification from Wake Forest that they will let me know if they need more info

I think everyone received an e-mail to this effect; I don't think they've started screening people yet.

Why the heck does Jefferson want our SAT scores? man... it makes me sad to recall them since I didnt do so well.

Got University of Rochester by snail mail...sooooo easy!!!! (they request you do not start it until you receive notification though)

Just got Vermont secondary via e-mail. Anyone who is applying to Vermont, what the heck is interfolio?

Yep got uroch in mail today. app is online and takes a whole 2 seconds 🙂

Interfolio is a service that would collect your recs etc. and send it to the school instead of having profs send them individually if your school does not have a service some use it.

Interfolio is an LOR service. I personally don't use it (professors actually prefer to send out each letter individually at my college), but lots of people do.

Everyone who got the Vermont secondary: I was working on step 3 and got a Runtime Error... I called Vermont and they are now working on it. Apparently a few applications did go through, but obviously a few are not. So don't despair, we think it saves the information every page. Just letting y'all know in case you get the same error, and they hope to have it fixed today.

So obviously I got the Vermont's secondary, and also got the receipt for Albany. Isn't it strange how Albany's email said something about a website and then they didn't provide one?

WashU asks for your SAT, ACT, and GRE. I have no idea what they are thinking. This is med school...and why do they even care about my SAT? I have been to college already...! Maybe they should ask LSAT next time... +pissed+

regarding rolling vs. non-rolling schools..

for schools that are non-rolling, does it matter if we turn in their secondaries early ie. before their due dates in the fall?

i'm trying to prioritize which secondaries i should do first...

If you have multiple do rolling ones first.

I got a Univ of Florida secondary today- it needs a peer rec! Agh. not prepared for that one.

And finally, FINALLY Northwestern.

Finally got UVM and Jefferson today. I got the Columbia, Wake Forest and Albany emails as well. These are really starting to pile up... Good luck kids! 👍

Is anybody else still having trouble with Jefferson? The link on their ("Apply Now") doesn't do anything at all for me. I hope it's just the computer here at work.

as far as SAT scores, I'm just saying I forgot mine (which is true). Either they'll deal or they'll reject me, but I seriously don't remember them.

Hooray! Finally got UofM (and I'm in state) although...I have to prove my residency because I went to college in Ohio :meanie:
