i just realized how georgetown makes a crapload of money with these secondary apps. in the 2004-2005 MSAR, georgetown had about 8,000 applicants-->automatic secondaries ~$100 each-->a little under a cool million goes into gtown's pocket. i hate secondaries

According to Georgetown's email, only ~5,000 actually completed secondaries. The 8000 was the number of ppl who checked off GT on AMCAS.

Oh, and Northwestern's email claims that they do not screen.

I don't think they screen....if they do I do not think they have high screening standards.

ugh AMCAS says they screen...i'm trying to feel special here

and HOLY **** i am SO SCREWED!!! northwestern says their letters of rec. deadline is august 1st?!?!?!?!? there is NO WAY my letter is getting done and sent by then.....what can i do?? they are one of my top choices!

Someone on this thread I believe said that Rochester secondary asks what you are doing if not in school for 2005- 2006. I filled it out and sent it and didnt remember seeing this question or mini essay. Anyone who still has access to the secondary know if it is on there? Sorry just being paranoid.....

Give them a call. I'm sure theyll cut you some slack.

Northwestern does not screen. This topic has come up several times.

Who else thinks the school(s?) that requires a handwritten essay has a handwriting analysis done on borderline applicants? I actually think they might. I wasn't so sure that there was anything legitimate about handwriting analysis until a guy I had never met analyzed mine and then wrote a description of my personality that was dead on with just a few minor differences (and this wasn't like a horoscope; it wouldn't have applied to anybody other than me). Also, I've heard that some big businesses have a handwriting analysis done on any potential new hires.

i just got pritzker...it looks pretty killer

I wasn't referring to screening. I was referring to the letters deadline. I just said "Northwestern doesn't screen" in this thread a couple hours ago... check if you want.

EDIT: in fact, I said it on this page...

Are people just copy and pasting for the Northwestern essays, or typing them directly into the application?
I'm copy-pasting into it. It caught a hyphen that Word formatted that it didn't like.

is a letter from my pre-med advisor going to count as a non-academic, non-faculty letter? I'd rather not get two new letters if one will count as two.

I don't believe that question was on the Rochester secondary. In fact, I don't think there were any spaces to give any response to any kind of question on there other than checking various boxes.

Brown undergrad made you do this too, and I've been suspicious about it ever since.

Another good laugh from the FAU app- they ask for an essay on your Spouse/Steady Friend.
That is a new one from the department of uncomfortable PC lingo... Perhaps it should read

Spouse/or, ummmm, your steady... friend

Steady friend? That's what they called it? Significant other is generally a pretty well-accepted PC term that could refer to practically any person/thing. 😛

Well, three secondaries down, a maximum of ten to go. 🙁 I've got Rush and UMich to bang out in the next couple days. I'm just glad that I've got Feinberg's finished, what with those crazy deadlines and all. 😱

Sad. The "Steady Friend" box's blankness is staring back at me in an accusatory manner.

Tempted to write "In between Steady Friends"

I am REALLY afraid of what my handwriting would say about me... it's just SCARY.

Hello,
I just received GW secondary. They asked us to list the courses that will constitute the required premed units and the grades we received in them. I did poorly on those early premed classes but performed well in the upper division bio and physics class. Can I put down my upper division class to satisfy the premed requirements or do I have to list those core classes?
Thanks.

Just put the cores...they see your WHOLE transcript, good and bad with year by year science GPAs, so it's not like they won't notice improvements.

Hey, Drexel doesn't screen and they send out secondaries via snail mail (hence the length of time). Penn State don't screen either but I am not aware of the mode of trasport for their secondary.

True about Drexel not screening; they also don't start sending out secondaries until the beginning of August. Same with SLU I believe. And both are via snail mail

Also, random question for anyone with Jefferson's secondary???? What, if anything are you all putting in the "extra" information section that's only allowing 500 characters? What do they want from me?

anyone receive Penn State, Brown, or Loyola secondaries yet?

Do U of WA, Loyola, New York medical college, St. Louis screen? Does anyone receive any of these school secondary?

for the bio lab part, which labs am i supposed to put since we dont have any official "pre-med track" labs. can i just choose from the ones i took?

Woah woah, UVA totally F*ked up my essay formats.

I tried doing what i did with AMCAS, putting extra lines between paragraphs but everything is bunched together... It looks hideous and i hope adcom wont be too annoyed by it. Since it is already submited.

Don't worry too much about it... the adcom at UVa is very understanding and will not hold something as minor as formating against you 🙂

whaaa... really? maybe that's a typo? august 1, that's insanely early for a deadline 😱 you sure it's not for an early decision program or some other equivalent alternative route?

Don't freak out - just call them or email and they'll automatically give you at least two weeks. It might even be a month but I can't remember.

This is my second shot at this and I freaked out too when I saw their deadline last year. I actually didn't apply to NW this year b/c I was really pissed when they rejected me two days after they received my check...bastards. I went crazy trying to get my letters together and all they wanted was the $$$! 😡

Yeah and this year it went up to $115 each.

Also, for Einstein's secondary on the middle page it has a whole bunch of boxes for you to check and then says "if you checked any of the above, please attach a separate sheet of paper with a detailed answer that includes dates". I checked that I plan to take this next year off, but other checkboxes include criminal charges. I can see those needing an explanation, but not really mine. Should I attach anything and if so what do yall think I should write? Just why I am taking a year off and what I am doing I figure.

Ugh... didn't Stanford used to screen? Everyone just wants (a) money and (b) time to delay their decisions now! Awful. Anyway, the website says secondaries won't start going out (to ALL) until August.

Still no NU, Jeff, or Rochester

Yes, and I also don't think there are criminal charges that don't require explanation, unless the actual charges are so much worse than whatever they might imagine.

You have to consider though that not all 8000 fill out secondaries. For example with GW about 8000 fill them out in primaries but only like 4000 fill out secondaries. I'm guessing this is a similar case to what happens at Gtown.

no worries i was also verified on the 14th and haven't got it. It will come soon enough.

i think we should do a tally of those who recieved NW secondary.

Please state first 3 letters of last name?

That amazes me. Why would you spend $30 to list the school on your AMCAS if you didn't plan on filling out the secondary?

Maybe some people decide, after seeing the secondary, that filling it out just isn't worth the hassle....

Well I'm actually considering not doing one of my secondaries. I'm not sure yet (I haven't even gotten it). I guess after submitting AMCAS and waiting around for secondaries, I started thinking more about why exactly I applied to the places I did. And the school I added at the last minute to make mine an even 10 is somewhere I don't know if I'm particularly interested in.

jrdnbenjamin said:
You can submit the Rochester secondary without an invite from them, as long as your AMCAS has been received by them.

Thanks, I misread the message on the secondary. Amcas had told me that they sent the info to Rochester when I got processed 🙂

LOL you were right. I just got my NW secondary. Man, everything including letters due Aug 5!

I just got an extension on my Northwestern application?!?! I didn't even ask for one!

Me too!! Weird... I wonder if they got so many requests that they just decided to give everyone a blanket extension??

Alright, I have been verified for about 2weeks now and have only recieved 5 secondaries out of 13 schools i applied to. NYMC, RUSH, LOYOLA, NYU, UIC, BU have not sent any secondaries out or at least none to me. Doesnt this negate the whole apply early bulls**t? I mean i know people who havent submitted their amcas, who are planning on submitting next week and they are going to be on the same boat as me. I personally need the early applying advantage, but i feel like i am not getting it because these lazy schools are taking their sweet ass time to release invitations. Anyone else feel the same?

I was verified around June 14th and I just got Rush and NYMC yesterday. Ther other schools that you listed haven't even sent theirs out yet. Don't fret--they'll come soon enough. 😉

If you submit AMCAS now it will take longer to verify, since there is a larger volume being submitted at this point. And you'll still be first to receive your secondaries from these schools. Many schools haven't released their's at all yet.

At the same time, I have mentoined repeatedly my friend who submitted on August 2 and received early interviews and an acceptance on October 15. Sure, it's good to apply early. In my mind that's mostly to get the process started and not stress about it or drag it out. Even submitting now is still early. It doesn't give you a huge advantage as long as you submit before mid-August, I think.

Just got a snail mail letter from Tufts with my password to submit the secondary!!
