Hey guys,

Do any of you have any insight on how to update schools (via email) with this semester's grades? I took three upper division science classes and got an A in each one. Should I just say "I would like to inform the admissions committee that I enrolled in three upper division science courses this Fall semester, and received an A in each one. The courses are listed below:" Or something like that?

Send them an e-mail that says "HAHAHAHA YEAH BOIIII 4.0 FOR ME MUTHAF**CJKAS!!! ACT QUICK OR MAYO IS GONNA GET ALL OVER THIS APPLICATION SANDWICH!!@#"

But really... you can just e-mail them, unless the school has a portal for application updates built into the secondary specifically, in which case use that. In either case, you list your courses and the grades you got.

^ Agree. If you don't have anything else to say, I wouldn't bother updating.

But correct me if I'm wrong but I thought we're suppose to update schools with our Fall 2013 grades? Or does that mean sending in the transcript alone is enough?

I was planning on sending a transcript with a short letter saying here is my updated transcript, look forward to hearing from you soon. Bad idea?

I have like 10 schools I have applied to that haven't sent me an interview invitation. A few others already have, but I am getting very impatient with this. An update won't hurt to those schools, can it?

I was never aware of this. If you're right, that may be a contributing factor as to why I did so poorly last cycle. :x

Do you feel that your GPA is a weak component of your application? If so, then by all means, send an update. If not, it probably won't really matter.

I've never heard of this as a requirement.

Do you have anything else worth mentioning in the update (like research presentations/pubs, ECs etc)? Grade updates by themselves are pretty useless if you have a strong GPA (strictly speaking 3.7+), and honestly not worth mentioning unless your GPA is below a 3.4.

If you're in Texas, then I believe you have to update all grades via TMDSAS.

One school advised me to email my unofficial transcripts to them, for example. You SHOULD follow up (unless the school has a no update policy) after fall grades are in, especially to schools you have interviewed at and/or been waitlisted at. Find out how your school wants that done though.

Yes, if you applied through TMDSAS you *have to* send transcripts to TMDSAS *each* semester you're taking classes. I recently got a reminder about that from TMDSAS 😉
AMCAS, on the other hand, does not require/accept transcripts after your application was verified and released to schools. I'm not aware of any individual schools that require grade updates, but I'm not saying they don't exist.

I also second that unless your last semester's GPA is significantly higher than your average GPA and/or the school requires grade updates, grades are not really worth an update letter.
