Anybody else still not receive a secondary? Peterock? Eminem?

I'm and out of state applicant (decided on a "what the heck?" app to UNC). I applied in September sometime, and today rec'd a long-winded "This is our application process" letter. Gave me a heart attack because I could see lots of writing on the letter.

Still waiting.

Yeah, I know the letter you're talking about. They are way behind in sending those out.

Anyway, exciting news: Lisa at UNC told me that they are sending out my secondary today! Yipee!!!

Unfortunately, I haven't made much headway on organizing that blood drive. RE was the only one to sign up, so I'm gonna have to be creative in my response to the essay question.

If I had realized how ridiculously hard it is to get in out of state I likely wouldn't have applied.. but at this point, has anyone from out of state gotten the secondary?

it's the last one i'm waiting on..ho hum....::twiddles thumbs:: 🙄

Nothing here either. You do realize, however, that you (sockandmittens) will probably be the first one to receive a secondary, if in fact UNC cares to send any out this season. Nonetheless, I'll be sure to keep SDN updated if I hear anything further from UNC.

I am an out of state applicant, my residency is NY. I got a secondary today. However, my immediate family has lived down in NC for 10 years - I don't know if that is influential. Either way, I am very happy!

Congratulations, and thank you for sharing this information. Does UNC know that your immediate family has lived in NC for 10 years? In other words, is this information on your AMCAS?

I am out of state, got my UNC secondary in mid-September..submitted it a couple weeks later, but haven't interviewed yet.

Do you guys know if they have merit scholarships for out of state people?

Also, do you know the hours of the interview day? What time it starts/ends etc..

luck all.

I am not sure about the merit scholarship but the interview day starts about 10/11 and the interviews on MWF are in the afternoon 2:00 onwards after lunch/tour etc .... and on TTh they are in the morning ...... and then lunch and tour.....Ends around 4-4:30 PM for MWF and I am not sure about TTh.

no secondary for me yet.

however, i work at unc and leave around 5 pm each day. i see lisa and randee pretty much everyday and they usually say hello to me... i wonder if that will make any impact or what. or it could probably mean that i have been up there too many times. lol......

It was not on my AMCAS, but I was introduced to an admissions person early in the process and talked to her about it. My advisor suggested that I put it in writing and mail it to admissions to make my connection with NC clear. What they do with letters of that nature is beyond me, I imagine it got tossed in the file. I have no idea whether it makes any positive or negative difference.

So I'm working on my UNC secondary and it says "Please carefully read the enclosed Instructions to Applicants before completing this application," but I did not get the instructions. It seems pretty straight forward, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Can I leave the Parent/Guardian information blank since I'm a nontrad?
2. What are the instructions for the LOR section?
3. If I send a Committee letter that is based on 5 individual letters, do I still need to send an "extra" letter that isn't included in the committee letter (they say not to send more than 5 letters)?
4. Are there any surprizes in the instructions that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

I spoke to Lisa this morning and she said that there was a batch of secondaries that went out without instructions. She proceeded to review them with me over the phone.

1. Fill in mother's or father's information so that they have another way to contact you.
2. Put recommender name (advisor name for committee letters) and institution name.
3. If you send a committee letter as well as the individual letters included in the summary you don't need to send any additional letters. Even though I have 5 letters included in my summary letter, I can send another letter if I want.
4. Send a check for $65 and only send the yellow copy of the Technical Standards Agreement.

I am applying to UNC as well. I just received "we're processing your application letter." Postmarked on the 14th.

I hope this will be my year at UNC 🙂

Anyone who took the Aug. MCAT hear from UNC yet? I hate all this waiting 🙂

Hi, I'm a first time August MCATer. I received a letter on Monday notifying me that my application had been received and was complete and would be processed soon. Seems like I read somewhere that we'll probably start getting notified in November.

Good luck!

August MCAT takers should not be worried. The committe member who interviewed me told me that they do not accept students until they have a good look at their whole applicant pool, i.e the 500 students they interview. So MCAT takers in August are at no disadvantage.

hey, salams man 🙂

I finally got my secondary/interview offer today. I subimitted my AMCAS in June and am an out-of-state applicant. I was about to give up on them. I'm hoping to get my interview in the next month or two.

I am an out of stater too. I sent my secondary in last week and I got a call today to schedule an interview for next week. So, you probably will hear sooner than you expect!

I received a secondary from UNC today, 11-22. I'm an August MCATer and in state. Don't give up! 🙂

I was told that there were 2 times more applicants during October than usual.
