I just received a letter from Goucher after I interviewed there last week telling me that my application came up for review following my interview and that the committee could not make a decision. Instead, they put me in "hold" category for the time being and will periodically review my application in their meetings.

It was written in the letter to be assured that this is not an unusual circumstance. What Im wondering is , is it not an unusual circumstance for people who get accepted or who dont get accepted? Are most people who get accepted accepted right off the bat or are they mostly also put into a hold category?

finally, anyone know if there is any thing to do to help get out of the hold category and into the accepted category and if so any suggestions on how to do it???

any responses greatly appreciated!

Meetings are likely almost over; Goucher probably has most of their class filled by now. I was put 'on hold' by Goucher in early November and accepted by Bryn Mawr about a week later. Goucher sent me a rejection letter about 3 weeks ago, but I had already committed to Bryn Mawr anyway. Point is, I wouldn't hold your breath -- but good luck anyway.

Actually, there are typically spots in the Goucher class that are held open until April. The program tends to be conservative about admitting applicants; rather than fill up the whole class early in the season, they place many interviewees on hold for later evaluation. Last year, there were a number of people in my Goucher class who were accepted off the hold list.

So... there's definitely hope, and good luck to you!

I'd say keeping in touch is never a bad thing when you're in this situation.

I would suggest keeping up with any healthcare volunteer work you're doing, and/or seeking out some new healthcare activities. In a few weeks, write a letter to update the Goucher committee about what you've been up to, and use the letter to reiterate why it is that you think the Goucher program would be a great fit for you.

I guess I don´t know for sure, but I´m guessing they´re waiting to hear back from others who have been accepted. I was accepted after my interview to Goucher, and this was back in October or November. So they´re probably waiting to hear from others before they make a firm decision on your application.

On a related note: I have an interview with Goucher coming up. Any advice? And does anyone know the acceptance rate of those interviewed?
