Hello all. I am an IMG wit only one year of internship credited in family medicine. I wanted to know if there are some jobs such as governmental jobs that I can pursue and make some money as I am struggling right now and cant find residency. I am willing to relocate as well anyone with any information of any job that I can do with a MD degree and no license let me know.

You can't work as a doctor with no license. There are no government physician jobs for unlicensed MDs like you are describing.

He mentioned that he had an intern year under his belt. All he needs is to pass step 3 and apply for a license right? Maybe not as an IMG. I'm not aware of IMG rules. There are government jobs that only require 1 year of residency + a license although they are usually non-clinical.

The move recently has been for federal jobs, such as places like the VA, et. al. to hire only board certified/board eligible in a specialty. I have been watching USAJobs and other places for likely spots before I got into residency, and I that seems to be the trend.

Best option would probably to go General Practice in a civilian position until you secure and finish residency.

Maybe some of the medical officer positions at FDA and/or CDC? Decent pay, good benes, not sure if citizenship matters. Usjobs.gov I believe, or google it. FDA also has a one year fellowship for people looking to get into regulatory science and I don't even know that it requires internship..

Well, he premised his question as "any job that I can do with a MD degree and no license". Since he says he is financially struggling, I'm not sure that doubling down and paying out money for Step 3 and a licensing fee, only to get a license at best 10 months later, is going to help him much.

At any rate, I don't know of any physician jobs you can get, with the government or elsewhere, without a license. There are other jobs in healthcare, but you (OP) won't be working as a doctor.

All the FDA jobs for physicians that I have seen require someone to be board eligible (i.e. finished residency). The OP may be able to get a job as a medical assistant or something, but even getting a license will be super hard, or impossible, so I don't see him/her being able to work as a doctor yet in the U.S. Most (? all) states that I know of require IMG's to finish all of a residency before they can get a full license.

If you can get a medical license, then you might be able to find jobs-- and the faster the better.

There are few states (I think Oklahoma and Wisconsin are among them, please read above link) where you can get license after 1 year of training. Not sure about step 3.
It takes some time to get license. Not sure if you can do pain clinic etc in those states after license.
I assume you have asked about US government job, you already have either green card or US citizenship. If that is the case, try government job in research either at NIH, CDC or FDA. Some places even pay for MPH fees as well plus decent salary like close 50K per year. Research plus MPH will even help you get back into residency but it will take like 2-3 years.

I think if you have a license, you can work in prisons or Not sure what are the rules for working in Indian areas.

Please get a license in any state that allows it after 1 year of training. Don't delay that process. Once that is done, you will hopefully be able to find a job (prison, with chiropractors, IHS, pain clinics, C & P exams, pharmaceutical companies). In the meantime, you can do research or work as a medical assistant or PA or work on a MPH, or medical writing etc: Good luck! I too am facing much difficulties in getting a job without being board eligible. But we must hope and persevere and fight the good fight.

You can't work as a PA without going through their schooling/licensing process. I also am not sure what a physician would be doing "with chiropractors" with or without a license-- this is a different profession altogether with it's own schooling and licensure as well.

At any rate, even if OP can get a license with his one year of internship, he still has to take step 3, wait for results, and apply for a license, so that doesn't really help him in the near term.
