im becoming a 3rd year at uc berkeley. so far i got ~2.8 cum.

the break down is:
3 A-'s
1 B+
2 B's
1 B-
5 C+'s
1 C-

i wanted to retake the C's but the university does not allow me to.

also, i am a URM (mexican american), and have almost no research. I have some volunteer exerience, and shadowed.

I have taken a practice MCAT (3r), scored a 29. i plan on taking the real thing on april 2006. so one year from now.

i am 19 yrs old, and have 2 more years of undergrad left. i have lots of time to apply and i have searched many forums already and know that it is still possible to get into medical school but i was wondering if i was looking at a SMP/MASTERs? is it too late to avoid doing a post- bacc?

my main concern is how long would it take me to have a decent shot at a allopathic OR osteopathic medical school 🙂 ? what about carribean schools 🙁 ? what would i have to go through? any ideas to help me? thanks 😀

I think you should concentrate on what you are good at. Maybe stay away from science classes if you are not a "sciency" type, and major in something other than MCB. Don't do lab work just because you feel like to *have* to, I would recommend buying Jung's "How not to apply to med school" off amazon, it teaches you how to play up your strengths in the application process. i think you still have a shot. try to get better grades in the future, do well on the MCAT and extracurriculars that are meaningful to you, and you'll be fine

I agree...MCB is a hard major, especially if you're not particularly receptive to the way that science classes are taught at Berkeley. It looks like you still have Bio 1A and 1B left. 1A is fairly challenging, but 1B is pretty manageable. You need to try to do well in those courses...and if you haven't taken MCB 100 or 102 yet, you need to try to do well in that one as well. And definitely work hard studying for the MCAT, if your scores on the science sections are stellar, it could give you some extra points as far as consideration of your science GPA goes.

I belive if you got a 29 on your first practice, and you study like crazy for the real deal, you'll do great. You have a year, do something cool (medically related ofcourse)
