For those of you who've already applied I have a question. I have a GPA from CC and another from the university. Do dental schools want the mean between these two GPAs? Or do they only require as your current GPA the GPA from the university where one earned their degree?

when you fill out the aadsas app it automatically calculates it for ya. You are required to list all classes from all colleges and their respective grades. hope this helps

They will see the gpa generated by AADSAS which will consist of all of your grades from every institution that you attended. So yes, it is more of a mean between they two and not one from a single university.

I have a question, do they want your Science GPA only or overall GPA? and do they want your BCP GPA too?

AADSAS will calculate the following GPAs once you send in your transcripts:
BCP - which is your Biology, Chemistry, Physics GPA
Science GPA
Non-Sciences GPA
Cumulative GPA

The GPA isn't the mean b/n your CC and 4 yr work, unless you completed the exact same number of units at both schools. To figure it out you'll have to add up all your grade points as if both schools are one place, and then divide by total units. When its presented on your application it will show your overall first, then the BCP, science and non-science, followed by breakdowns at each institution and by semester.

I know this might sound ridiculous, but I am more confused than ever on how to calculate my GPA. From what Im understanding: there is a GPA based on science pre-dental courses, another GPA for ALL science courses (including upper-level science courses), and an overall GPA?
Is there another GPA exclusively for pre-dental coursework, including physics, english, math etc?
How do '+/-'s factor in to the GPA? and which one do the schools look at?
When we're looking at the avg accepted sci/cumm GPA statistic of various dental schools, which GPA is it refering to?

Overall GPA: yes
Science GPA: yes
When you mention the GPA for the science pre-dental courses, I believe you are referring to the BCP GPA (for biology, chemistry, and physics): that would be yes
There is also a non-science GPA listed as well, for a total of 4.

no… only those mentioned above. And from the categories you mention (math, English) the closest thing would be the overall GPA

How do '+/-'s factor in to the GPA?

+ = an extra 0.3 (so a B+ = 3.3)
- = a loss of 0.3 (so a B- = 2.7)

and which one do the schools look at?

Would vary by school. These numbers are usually very close. I double majored, and am finishing a masters (so lots of classes) and mine only varied by 0.01.

When we're looking at the avg accepted sci/cumm GPA statistic of various dental schools, which GPA is it refering to?
ummm... not sure exactly what you're asking.
sci = science = all science classes
cumm=cumulative=every class you took
would be shown as something like 3.45/3.5
