I want to apply this summer to SCO and PUCO. I have a 3.47 gpa and got a 310 on the OAT. I was wondering if I should apply like this or if I should retake the OAT this summer. Do you think I will get in? Anyone apply to these schools this past year with similar stats? Thank you for your input!

retake the oat. SCO's oat score cutoff was 310 this cycle, which means that is the lowest they will even consider for an interview.

Ditto. Your GPA is competitive, but combined with your OAT score, not as much. Though the cutoff changes from year to year, you don't want to be near/at the bottom of that cutoff. Because it might get you an interview, yes, but you may not stand out as well against the other applicants with higher OAT/GPA combinations. Ya herd?

i concur. i would retake it. if you have applied anywhere, inform them that you are retaking it. if not, then work hard studying and try to boost it to a 330.

my stats for SCO were 3.46 and 340 on OAT with 4 volunteer places and i got an invite for interview for the first interview weekend held (not bragging by any means, just letting you know). apply early too! that helps in the process.

SCO likes 320 and up... retake the OAT.. ur GPA is good though.

I'd apply. Your GPA and OAT are good, and the longer you wait, the less likely your chances of getting interviewed. What you lack in OAT, you may make up for in other areas. High OAT and GPA scores are nice, but you've got to have the right attitude and determination to become an excellent optometrist.

Fortunately for you there are 3 new schools (unfortunately for all current students and optometrists), so there will be more competition between the schools to fill their seats. With your numbers you could slip into one of the new programs I'm guessing. Established schools like PUCO and SCCO might be a long shot. I know PUCO, if they reject you, will tell you what about your application they didn't think was up to their standard. So if you are waiting to take another OAT when applications go out, apply to PUCO anyways, if your OAT was the hold up and you get a new better score before their seats are filled, you'll get in.

Another thing to consider- besides your collective OAT score, if any 1 portion is <300 many schools will reject on that alone.

Good luck to you
