Hi all!
I finished my first semester of dental school with a 3.24 GPA, 2Bs, 2B+s, and one A. I didn't really figure out how to study for D-school until the end of my first semester. People in my class are geniuses, and I'm only ever behind 3-4 questions every exam which adds up (hence all my Bs) Am I doing terribly if I wanted to get into a residency like Pedo/Endo/Perio?
I'm already going to get a B+ in Histo this semester (I bombed the second exam even tho I got A's on the first and last) and I'm really trying my best to get more A's this semester but it might be a fair mix between both.
Any insight?

GPA is relative from school to school. Class rank is the real indicator. For example, a 3.5 undergrad GPA at Harvard is different than a 3.5 at Johns Hopkins. One is known for grade inflation and one for grade deflation. Nonetheless, it appears you may need to step your game up a bit.

I've met some geniuses as well. They blew the basic sciences absolutely out of the water. However, many struggled with the preclinical and lab work. They took a hit. How are you doing on that side of things?

Really just top 50%?
My school only sends 2-3 people to endo every year so I guess there's just not much interest?
Weird though because it seems my class is really into endo

That's because endo usually doesn't accept people straight out of school. Most prefer a GPR/AEGD first. Higher class rank and stats will help people avoid that.

fairly well! I wish I could spend ALL DAY in sim lab. And I'm not really weak in the sciences, but where I go to school many of the classes are a 92 for an A-, so sometimes thats like missing 2 questions every test, so if I miss 4-5 (my average) I end up with like a 88-90% in all my classes. So close yet so far 🙁

Lol not to come off as rude, but your GPA means nothing, especially if you go to a school where an A-=92. You need to tell us your class rank if you want us to give you any adequate information
