Hi all,

Needed some advice, I took Ecology and Molecular Biology about 3 years ago and did not pass them. I was wondering in order to boost my GPA should i retake them at the university i took them at or take them at a different university. I know Pharmcas averages the grades but if they are taken at the same University right? Maybe I'm confused about that. But anyhow was wondering since ecology and molec. are not offered in the spring at Rutgers should i retake them at a different 4 year university or wait to take them at rutgers in the fall?

Thanks in advance.

If you want to retake those courses, then it would not matter where you retake them at. PharmCAS averages all grades from all schools, not just the ones from the same schools. If you're going to retake those courses, I recommend retaking them at the cheapest school that offers them. Good luck! 🙂

Thank you pharmerjohn 🙂 i'll need all the luck i can get!

I would like to add though, that if you fail a hard class, it's generally better to retake it at the same university because it shows your improvement at the same difficulty level. Sometimes people get suspicious when you get an F in Organic Chemistry at a university, but then get a B the second time, for example, at a community college.

Don't bother on retaking a class if it's not required. Don't bother on boosting your GPA. Your efforts are better set on getting a 90+ PCAT. Then, you'll be set on getting anywhere.

This really all depends on what the OP's GPA is though...

Honestly it's not gonna make a difference. It's one class and PharmCAS will account for both times taking it. Also he or she probably has over a hundred units completed. It's not gonna make a difference in the GPA. Maybe 0.01? And that's like given they get an A.

Say if OP had all Cs in prereqs, retakes them at a CC and earn As for all classes, wouldn't his gpa average out to a 3.0?

Yea maybe but depends on the grades in non prereq classes. It'll all factor into PharmCAS GPA.

The thing is op only has to retake one class.. Don't waste money and time retaking that one class from C to an uncertain A. That time can be better spent whether it's working or volunteering or whatever. And unless you failed the prereq.
