GPA breakdown in different systems

how is GPA calculated in quarter system vs semester system??
they have different units right?
for example, in quarter system there are 3 series, each worth 3-4 units (let's say for a Calc class)
but in semester system, one only takes calc I and II with equivalent units (or more)

so if you total that up, for the same Calc class, quarter system get 9-12 units for the whole year; whereas Calc class in a semester system get 6-10 units?
