Hey guys,

I am little confused about GPA calculation of AADSAS.
They mentions in their instruction that A+ is 4.3; A, 4.0; A-, 3.7; and so on. And, I wondered if they count A+ as 4.3 so I sent email, and they answered yes.

However, I have never seen some one scoring above 4.0 (I know it's very difficult number to get, but I thought if GPA aboe 4.0 is possible, probably there should be someone with it)

And, I know many (or most) schools disregard A+. Although A+ is actually given, it's calculated same as A, 4.0. My school also doesnt count A+, but I have a few A+s. Does AADSAS, when they make their own calculation, count these A+s as 4.3 from the school which gives 4.0 to A+?

If they don't differentiate among the schools that count or don't count A+ as 4.3, I think it's not quite fair. For example, in my school, students tend not to care about getting A+ as long as they can get A. Also, some professors do not even give A+, assuming that A is same as A+.

Does anyone know about this matter for sure?

AADSAS will calculate two different GPA's for all three of the GPA's it calculates (non-sGPA, sGPA, and BCP). One GPA will disregard the +/- and just do the normal A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, etc. The other GPA will include the +/- and yes, if your transcript says A+ it will count it as a 4.3 even if your school doesnt. So you can have a GPA higher than a 4. But it depends on the dental school as to which GPA will be looked at.

👍

You will have 2 GPA sets.

1) GPA with +/-

2) GPA without +/-

It's up to the school you apply to decide which GPA they will evaluate you with.

How do they calculate the gpa if schools do not use - or +, but instead have AB BC and CD?

What courses are considered science credits?...Eg. is Statistics considered a science course?

yes. A+'s are a blessing when it comes to AADSAS.

Isn't that sort of unfair to the applicants whose university doesn't give out A+s?

Yeah. It's incredibly unfair. I went to a university which gives +/-s but not A+s, but you just have to go with the flow and hope for the best.

ahh!!! my school doesnt give out A+s!!!!! and i definitley have over 100% in 2 of my classes right now...so i should get an A+!!! too bad itll just showupp as a stupid 4.0 instead of a 4.3
fml i need all the help i can get. what a rip off. i shouldve just been aim'ing for 94's the whole time. dang

if you're the kind of student who get's A+ a lot you probably have close to a 4.0 anyways

if you're the kind of student who by some great wonder gets 1 A+, it's not going to move your GPA much

it's easy to want something you dont have, but in all honesty if you're not getting consistent A's, having A+ option wont help. if you are getting consistent A's having A+ will probably not help either (3.9 vs. 4.1?? cmon)

word. but im doing a postbacc so a straight A+ postbacc would add up compared to a straight 4.0 postbacc. any lil bit counts for me.

BTW, how in the heck can you guys pull off A+s...95% of my grade is 3 exams and the class averages are low 70s. Are people really pulling off 100%s on every exam they take...because that seems impossible on my exams hah

exam averages in the 70s? dang thats pretty good. many of my higher end biology courses, class averages were in the low 50s.

As far as A+'s go, don't forget, some professors add a "hidden" curve to final grades before submitting them. They won't tell you this, but some do it.

I don't think you'll come across many people who get 100% in EVERY exam, maybe 95%+ in each test, but not a perfect 100.

haha @ rondizzle the class averages in my courses are in the low 70s too. I think its just bc people literally dont study? ......been there done that! now im on the opposite end of things, things are much prettier on this side

oh & the sickest part is, the prof will hand back the exams and say im really proud of u guys, you did really well, the class average was a 73................................& hes serious.

I don't believe that's the point. Most schools don't OFFER A+s. It's not a problem of getting scores that high, it's a problem of getting a score that high and still getting a regular A.
