Hi everyone. I am an international student from South Korea.
So how important are the interviews? I have solid GPA and DAT
-3.65/25AA; however, as an international student, I
don't have good pronunciation, so I'm really worried about interviews.
Do you think they will overlook my pronunciation if my GPA/DAT is
good enough for their schools? Or is communication skill is very critical for admissions... Thank you for your answers!

Hey, great stats!

I would say that pronunciation is not as important as your personality as well as your ability to cummunicate and comprehend. As long as you can understand them, and they can understand you, you should do great.

Be confident and smile a lot. They already know that you're very capable and intelligent, just get beyond the stereotype and show some personality.

Interview is very important. Remember that GPA/DAT gets you the interview but the interview gets you the acceptance. Everyone that interviews are highly qualified as yourself. There are some pre-dents with stats as yourself but had to reapply even with 4-5 interviews.

They will not necessarily care about your pronunciation but communication skill is critical for admissions. What would be the point of the interview if they don't care about that? Like I said before, everyone that interviews have GPA/DAT that is good enough for the dental schools but it's the communication skills and personality that separates these applicants for an acceptance. Make sure you can talk and engage in a conversation with another human being.

Communication is critical, yes, but I do believe that they will understand that you are international/south korean. I've met some international students on my interviews that had accent/some pronounciation errors/not the best at english, and they all got accepted at a few schools. (I kept in touch with them).

The bottom line is that the most important thing is the CONTENT of your interview answers, NOT so much how you speak it.

Thank you everyone! I actually lived in US for 9 years, so I can "communicate". I'm just not as fluent as you guys are...I will try my best. Thanks!

I think it depends on the school...

Some schools place alot of emphasis on the interview but others accept 80-90% of all interviewees...

In the latter case, your academic stats and application are more importants and the interview is somewhat of a formality just to make sure you're not crazy

Your stats are very strong so I think you have a great shot at being accepted to a few schools...
