Hi everybody,

has anyone faced a problem of having a discrepancy in the GPA between the general and course-by-course report prepared by ECE. My course-by-course is 2.25 which was done in July 2007 whereas my general which was done before in October 2001 was 2.82. this is a big discrepancy but they are not ready to listen to anything. all they say is that the credits of the university have come down. but I have a question.... if the university closes, will they give all its students a GPA of zero?????? any suggestions???😕😕😕

really!
this is interesting
you should ask them again hw this happen?
i also faced some problem (nt like u) regarding GPA bt finally got it
hope that they will correct it
bt ask them again and send general and corse by course evaluation to them ask

I didn't know that they write GPA on general evalution report as its not there on mine. I think ECE only mention it on course by course and above.

ECE does mention GPA on general report. And unfortunately for me they have reported different scores. I spoke to the person who did the evaluation and after much persuasion I still get the same reply "In the case of your evaluation report, a review of the grading practices in place at the University led us to change how we equate marks achieved at that university to United States grades. This change is reflected in the grade average that appears in your second evaluation" this is what they tell me.
But they dont answer my question of how can they evaluate me according to the current grading practices in my university?they should evaluate me according to the standards of the university when i studied there, right? only then their evaluation can be accurate no matter at what time in life it is done coz what knowledge i obtained with respect to the standards at that time does not change. I know of people who have similar marks like mine and who got their evaluation done 7-9 years back. So their GPA is more than mine with similar marks and same university. So is it my fault that I cannot go back in time to get my evaluation done earlier to report the higher score to the universities? i wish i had a time machine and i would not have to break my head with them 😉

this is causing a serious discrepancy in the whole admission process as universities only see the GPA numbers which may vary so much even with similar marks and give such a wrong picture. I also got a rejection from the university which was my first preference saying my GPA is low 😡

Cant understand why they are not ready to understand this simple logic which any lay man would also understand. Am lost at what I should do now.... 😕

I do not have GPA on my general report too and wonder how to get one>
??????????????

If you can't change it pls don't get depressed. Its not an end, I know a guy who had 2.23 and got into a very good college provided his part 1 score was 91. Pls focus on your part 1 score to cover up and also some good SOP and volunteer works, thats the only thing that is in our hand not the GPA. Its frustrating....but lets think positive, focus and brighten the other parts of the applications. You'll definitely make it....all the best

Thank you Sharon for the motivation. But my one reason for bringing this here is to find some solution to the problem so other students in the future do not face a similiar problem. I thought that my discrepancy was the only one sporadic discrepancy that may have happened, but the reports seem to be more inconsistent than I had thought.

Dentals and xerostomia say no GPA on general reports😕 strange coz my one very good friend also got the general report done last year end and has the GPA on it. How come the general reports are not the same for everyone?🙄

They have their own minds I guess. For some folks, they got consolidated marksheets and got higher grades than others who in the same situation wasn't considered even after the consolidated marksheets. Its frustrating...

Perhaps, dentals & xerostomia are from a different country & hence, GPA may no be mentioned on their general reports.
Even I was in a similar predicament wherein ECE gave me a low GPA although I had better marks from fellow students from other universities. Are you from Mumbai/Maharashtra? If yes, then the recent change to MUHS could be making an impact on the grading system coz its a new university with no previous benchmarks.

I am from Mumbai university. and my predicament is how they can judge me by todays standards when I completed my degree long back. Isn't it wierd that you judge that times education according to todays grading system coz this grading was not the one on which I scored my marks......

Precisely. I had a mini-debate with ECE regarding the total disregard for our (previously recognized) quality of education because of a name change in the University. But, it was to no avail.

This is so depressing. I am in similar situation now. I had gotten a General evaluation from ECE done in 2001 and was given a GPA of 3.41 (I am from GDC, Hyderabad, Ind). Now in 2008, I got a course-by-course evaluation done and was given a GPA of 2.76.? Unbelievable.....As prodenty2k mentioned, they can't evaluate my GPA based on the current standards as I graduated long back. ?
Secondly, if we get another evaluation report after 4-5 years, will we get a GPA below 2, even worse given an F-grade because the current students are getting 90% and the trend in scoring system has changed.? This is unfair and ridiculous.
I am still working with ECE on this as my evaluator was on vacation but after hearing the comments from prodenty2k, I am disappointed as I know I will get the same response from them. May be we should fight for this injustice.?

hi..i feel..this must hav surely happened in the past..tht govt college students get poor gpa..but im sure. they hv been accepted at schools..my gpa is 2.5..am frm gdc, mumbai...
and the pvt college students get good gpa...
and our gpa hardly goes above 2.8 or 2.9.....
anyone wit low gpa being accepted at schools??

Folks,
This is what I found: ECE uses a flat standard scale for generating their reports, 65 and above is A, 58 - 64 is B, 50-57 is C. (This scale will be used for the whole country, India, unless there are any differences in Dentistry programs at other places). The scale that was used to grade my GPA in 2001 was taking a lower scale (60 and above = A) into consideration. This is the explanation that was given to me. That sounded logical to me and I had no more questions.
But obviously, this will highly affect a lot of us, especially people like me, because in our batch, we were given very low grades, the whole class. (mostly due to the professors). Subsequent batches were given better grades ofcourse. (for Ex, considering a total score of 150, : a person who scores 97 in all subjects gets a GPA of 3.0 and one who gets 98 will get a GPA of 4.0.? Is n't that something,?) funny though.

So bottomline is that this flat standard scale for the whole Country is definitely not fair but there is nothing we can do about it. It is what it is.
I truly believe that if we can score well in Part I and get interview calls, we can make a strong case if there are any questions asked about low GPA.
Hope this helps you folks.!
