Hi all, Last month I pick a book and I start reading about the requirements for pharmacy admision and it say the average gpa requirement was 2.4 for pharmacy. For dental school was 2.6 and for medical school was 2.8.

I was really happy but then I look at the date of the book and I found out that this book was publish in the 1980s.

Why the average GPA have increase so much during this past decades?

Thanks!

Grade inflation would explain some of it.

Maybe more people have means to a college education?

Change from an undergraduate degree to a graduate degree? Greater demand overall and the increase in demand from retiring baby boomers?

times have definitely changed

most college degrees now are equivalent to high school degrees during that time period

Just looking at those numbers is making me sick!!😱

I wish things were that easy now, as they were back then... I got to find that book..

Yea, I was amaze by that. Go to your local library and find any book that talks about career in the 1980 or 90s and you will see. If you can find it let me see I will see if I can find the name of the book again.

i agree with fenderbiz, this is definitely the reason why schools require a higher gpa. I mean 2.4 and you are going to end up with a high salary when you graduate, why not?

I don't know that the average did increase. This book listed minimums. The minimum at CU Denver is 2.7. Does that mean you're guaranteed a spot with a 3.2? No. But if you have less than that they won't even consider you, regardless of the strength of your application. So that's only a 0.3 increase, or the difference between a C+ and a B-. Given that it's now a professional degree instead of an undergrad, that's not bad at all.
