Hi everyone! 🙂

Can someone tell me if it's bad to have a lower GPA than my sGPA?

I have 3.0 GPA, and 3.5 science GPA.
I didn't do so well in two literature classes (electives), an anthropology class, and a basic nutrition class.
(I have c+ ~ D in these courses.)

I have a lot of B's and B+'s for my school requirements (basic math and english classes)
and I have A's and A+'s for a lot of my science classes, and a few B's and B-'s

Will this look bad? Should I worry about this?

Oh, and fyi I have a decent DAT score.

how many course units do you have? That's a pretty big discrepancy between your oGPA and sGPA.
And hows your RC score?

I think that oGPA will hurt your chances. But there's no point worrying about it because there's actually not a whole lot you can do to "fix" it at this point. Your sGPA is great so I don't think your oGPA is going to keep you out of dental school. I think you'd still have a good chance; just don't fall into the illusion that you are a 3.5 gpa student and neglect to apply broadly.

I've attached a document which doctoothache put out back in 2012 or thereabouts. You can see how various dental schools rank application criteria not just for the DAT, but GPA, sGPA, etc.

A 3.5 sGPA is respectable, and I think that it depends upon the other parts of your application what your chances will be. There is a thread devoted to people with under a 3.0 GPA and plenty of them get in somewhere, so it happens. A surprising number of them get into some pretty good schools. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/the-under-3-0-club-part-02.362708/page-34#post-14992730
