Would med admissions frown upon one undergraduate class taken per semester, even though grade As, during certian semesters in an undergrad transcript history? I work FT and am dealing with a health problem so only have time for one class during certain semesters presently.

My third essay was all about how I worked full time because my parents are poor. The adcoms at Southwestern said they look very highly upon disadvantaged students that had to work full time as undergraduates.

Keep in mind they also want to make sure you can handle a full course load. So, try to up the credit load at some point to show them you can handle multiple classes.

If you work full time, having a 4.0 GPA is way better than a "full course load" with mediocre grades.

Did I say take a full course load and get mediocre grades? Adcoms are not fools, they know if a person only takes one course that it is easier to get a 4.0 in that course. That is why they like to see students take several courses at one time.

Mmm.. I would be ashamed to actually say to somebody that I had a 4.0 GPA if I only took ONE course during a 4 month span of time, even if I was working full time, because it is misleading. And still, I don't think your statement is as clearcut as you make it out to be. It would probably depend on the adcom/course/job.

IMO, 4.0 GPA w/ full courseload >>> 4.0 GPA with ONE course but working FT.

yes. they would frown upon your having to be sick and for you not having the luxury of focusing on your studies free of working simultaneously

<sarcasm>

as long as you don't do it forever and take time to explain it somewhere on your app you'll be given a fair shake

<antisarcasm, the real ish>
