Hey guys i am finishing my sophmore year right now and my oGPA without the grades of this semester is 3.1 because i had 3 science classes in my freshmen year in which i got C+. I was talking to my advisor the other day and she said that if i only get A's and A-'s in my junior and senior year my GPA would go to a max of 4.47. Do you guys think that would be competitive enough to apply for dental schools?

Thank you

Does your senior year even count? I thought you're supposed to apply after junior year so senior year GPA won't be on the application.

It changes when you do the academic update.
Isn't that basically like sending in your senior year transcripts to your university after you graduate high school? So you've already been accepted and then you send them the rest of your grades to make sure you're still on track? Does it actually have any affect on the admission?

Just as easy as it is to blow off grades after getting in, an acceptance can easily be rescinded should one consider entertaining that method against the terms established by admissions. Every semester matters.

Yeah i would normally apply to dental schools in my junior year but since my gpa is low i am going to apply on my senior year in order to get my gpa as high as possible.

To answer your question OP, the gpa you projected to graduate with is fair enough to apply comfortably with...that's if your DAT score makes up for any short-comings you experienced academically. Ideally, aim for a 21 or 22. Keep up the momentum and stay focused on the bigger picture which is you eventually working in a great healthcare field! 🙂

Thank you for answering my question 🙂

3.47 is doable. Get a strong DAT like others have said. You need a well-rounded application, and also prepare well for the interviews.
