hi, so I want to apply for dental school this upcoming cycle. But my GPA isnt as great as it can be. I'm taking 15 credits worth of sciences this summer. If i get what im aiming for, this would out my GPA in a better position. I know once you submit the AADEAS application, you can't change much. But i know the earlier you apply the more likely you'd get an interview. Should i submit with my current overall GPA of a 3.4 or wait till after summer where my gpa can potentially go up to a 3.45, and apply in august? I still haven't taken my DATs and planning on taking it this summer.

Thank you

Isn't this entirely dependent on which schools you want to apply to? Applying early will definitely be to your advantage, but you don't want to apply to a school that has mean acceptance GPA which is much higher then yours.

apply early. applying late will hurt you more than a 3.4 vs a 3.45

Gpa is important but there's so many other factors such as the DAT and involvement in clubs and organizations. What have h been involved in and what's the DAT looking like? 3.4 is very respectable as long as u have leadership experience, a lot of shadowing/volunteer work, and a good DAT score. In my situation I have a bad freshman and first semester sophomore year (3.2). But if u show improvement your later years its all good. Be confident you will get in somewhere if denistry is your dream. You might not get in this cycle but taking a year and retaking some courses and reappplying is worth it. Good luck! Shadow and volunteer as well!

3.4 vs 3.45 is like comparing a Ford truck to Chevy's

Apply early with 3.4.

They are both horrible? 😀

But seriously, what everyone has said is correct. You are talking about increasing your GPA by 0.05. It won't make a difference. What will make a difference is the 2 month delay.
