I got a zero grade for an activity in pharmacy school because I had a couple of spaces left in a paper we were supposed to use for the discussion. the syllabus specified consequences for being late to the activity but never said anything about point deductions for an incomplete paper. Other activities have been pretty specific on consequences and I felt I was graded unfairly because I showed up for the event and got marked for attendance which is half of the grade. We had multiple exams that week in school and I left the paper with some spaces to study for my exams. I already spoke with one of the professors for the course and she was very defensive and said the grade was justified. I plan to appeal my grade at the end of the semester and I need advice on how to go about this .

Just tell them the truth and hope for the best.

did you read my post.. I wouldn't be filing a grade appeal if I was wrong..

I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m just saying you should explain it thoroughly the way you wrote it here and hope for the best because with any kind of appeals process, you’re not guaranteed to have a decision made in your favor, even if you claim to be right. You’re in professional school now, not undergrad or high school.

Isn't it common sense that if you have to fill out and turn in a paper, that if you leave parts of it blank you will get a point deduction? Why would that have to be specified in the syllabus? Sounds to me like you got the grade you deserved.

A zero though? Wouldn’t zero only be appropriate if the entire paper was blank?

As with all stories were only getting one side so who knows but the facts as presented do not seem to support a zero.

Also do not wait until the end of the semester. Appeal now. Unless your college has a policy about having to wait until the end to make an appeal.
I'm gonna begin the process immediately. I wouldn't mind taking it as far as I need to.. I shouldn't be graded with a rubric that is not on the syllabus ..

Obviously appeal, but reading what you typed the grade seems justified.

If you're not clearly in the right, you're clearly in the wrong.

The fact that you're asking SDN clearly highlights the latter.

I am just curious if you leave one question unanswered on an exam should you get a zero on that exam?

Am I missing something here?

What does it matter? OP isn't talking about exams. He's asking about busy-work assignments.

Sounds like OP's slurping for points.

So you think zero is a totally fair grade for a partially incomplete busy-work assignment?

See:

They probably approached the prof with this beautiful attitude.

Yeah I detected the entitled, rude attitude as well. Still zero seems harsh (as the facts are presented).

I suspect that the assignment is actually “mostly” blank spaces. Still the facts as presented don’t seem to justify a zero grade IMO.

Submit a appeal and hope for the best. Right now it is really the wild west when it comes to holding schools accountable. They can do whatever they want and get away with it.

I wouldnt fight them over some busy work assignment and get the reputation of being they way that I can tell that you are, just by reading two of your posts. Save these types of arguments for when you really need it, unless you’re gonna fail this class or something because of this? Pick your battles.

I agree

I won .. Cash me outside.. How 'bout that?

I won.. There was nothing to fight about...

"I won.

I pissed off / embarrassed someone who literally has the power to ruin my academic career, and gave them a reason to get back at me.

I showed you guys!"

Ahh, pharmacy school. That magical place that would summon me on at least a semester basis to the "Ethics and Professionalism" joint council of students and faculty for me to explain to them how I was indeed following all the rules to the letter (and more often than not, to the spirit). Much annoyance on their end and amusement on mine.

My litmus test: What alternative makes the school of pharmacy look best? If holding you back a grade or kicking you out (probably not in this scenario) is better than having to face the ramifications of their actions, don't buck the system. Otherwise it's free game!
