I received 3 C+ this semester, due to some personal family issues, I had to deal with, it brought my gpa down to a 3.25 and I'm really afraid that I won't get into pharmacy school because of my poor performance during that semester. I don't know if anyone was in this situation, but any advice? I will retake the classes, but I will be applying before I could retake them.

Is that 3.25 GPA your science GPA? If not, what's your sGPA? What 3 classes did you get C+ in, and are you going to take the PCAT?

In any case, 3 C+ grades won't sink you unless you have other things that detract from your app also (A low PCAT, light ECs, no experience, etc).

Finally, is the family issue something that's documentable? If so, you can bring that up during the interview as an extenuating circumstance.

I got a C+ in Physics and Biology, which would bring my Science GPA to a 3.1

Yes, I'm taking the PCAT in october.

I will have around 7 months of pharmacy experience and volunteering experience.

I might bring the family issue in my personal letter, and also in the interviews. Thanks a lot, means a lot.

This may sound like a really oddball, from left field question... By but chance, mitoonin farsi harf bezani? If you can't read that, nevermind!

It sounds like you're doing okay... Even a 3.1 is fine, and Physics is kinda one of those courses you take a PR in and never see again in Pharmacy school (as I understand it, next year I can tell you for sure for myself!), Biology, well, it's a lot of memorization and I can see if you're having a lot of serious family problems that your time could be thus limited.

What did you get in your Orgo I and II classes (assuming you've taken them)?

in short: don't worry. You seem like you've got a good head on your shoulders, and as long as you get a solid swing-and-hit on the PCAT, and bring up your GPA to a more comfortable 3.3ish region, you'll be a-ok.

As an aside, some folks like Gatorromp I think it was, suggest not discussing super personal details like that in your personal statement unless it somehow bettered you as a person and led to your development of character. Otherwise, it looks kinda like a "boo-hoo" sob story. Personally, I think it's alright to use those details in a personal statement as, after all, it is you! But... hard to say. That's one of those truly subjective things. Definitely going to be important in the interview, though.

I haven't taken Organic yet, actually. ahaha, I actually never heard that before(thats persian by any chance?), I am hoping to do extremely well on the PCAT so my gpa sorta "overshadows." I most likely will bring it in the interview and most surely bring it personal essay as an experience. Thank You so much, my gpa will be aorund 3.3 by the end of the summer, Thank You again.

Good luck at Pharmacy School.

Indeed, that was Persian.

Your name, Sheerin, means "Sweet" in Persian, and you used the verb "bring" like Persians do, incorrectly (just a little). Like, "bring it in the interview", instead of "say it in the interview". It's a nuance of Persian speech is all. 😉

Good luck to you too!

haaha you know me so well.

Yeah, its Iranian.

My ancestors are from there, are you by any chance?

Thank You!

No, I am not Iranian, but my wife is first-generation Iranian. Her parents came over from Iran in 1979 after the Shah fell and that whole fiasco with the hostage crisis, so I am fluent in Farsi as well as Dari (The Army also gave me a year of language training).

As she would say, eshkali nadare 🙂 (No problem).

To Passion4Sci - Kheili khoobeh keh shoma mitooni farsi harf bezani! Haha, I'm half Iranian but I lived in Iran for a while so that's how I learned the language.

To sheerin - I agree with Passion4Sci, don't worry too much about it. Just make sure you land a good PCAT score, get strong LOR's, and finish off with a nice personal statement, then you should be fine.

Just study your tail off for the PCAT's, try to get as good of a score as possible, and your good!

Whats the rule for retaking a class? If i get a C, and retake the class, and get an A, do most pharm school average it out?
