Can you still drop it? Getting a C or D is certainly not a good idea. It might not kill you, but why not drop it if you still can. It's only required at some medical schools, and even then you can always take it the summer before you started med school anyhow. If you can't drop it, you should still have time to study your a$$ off and get help, talk to your prof and pull off atleast a B. Luck.

I'd talk to the professor. A B would probably be better than a P. You might be able to offer to come in and talk with the prof every week and do extra problems relating to the material on the test you bombed and he will change your grade. Can't hurt to ask.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. One of the admissions guys at University of Wisconsin-Madison talked about how irrelevant calculus is to a physician's success. He mentioned that, when reviewing applications, he "puts his thumb over the calculus grade."

Only a few schools actually require calculus. I know Dartmouth is one of them, and I'm sure there's plenty more, but I wouldn't worry about dropping it.

I'd suggest a Pass rather than a drop. You'll get credit, it won't hurt your gpa, and you won't have to take it again later. In my experience, the grade in Organic Chem is far more important. Do well in that and be sure to take it at a school that is at least as highly regarded as your usual undergrad institution (if you are taking it "elsewhere" over the summer). Nothing downgrades an application faster than taking Organic over the summer at a community college or mickeymouse school rather than at "Big Deal University" where you are doing your undergrad.

I am taking Calculus right now and totally don't understand it. I have already posted regarding this because I was asking whether calculus was really needed and blahblah. I decided to stay in the class because some med schools require it. I did okay on the first exam, and the second one I totally bombed. It's not like I'm not trying, I just really don't understand it.

Now I don't know what to do... is a C or (hopefully not) a D in calc going to ruin my chances at getting into med school? Am I completely screwed? And of course this is getting factored into my science GPA which also is going to hurt.

I plan on doing very well in the other science courses I take (Orgo over the summer, Bio and Physics next year) because science classes I am good in. I have already taken Gen. Chem. and got a B+ and A for both semesters. If I keep all my other science grades up, will the Calc not look too bad?

I'm totally freaking out about this stupid calc thing and it pisses me off even more because I am never going to use calc again. Lol.

So, what do you all think about my chances for med school with this low grade in calc? (BTW I really want to go to SUNY Stony Brook for med school if that helps any...)

Thanks in advance.

You can get C's and get into medical school just fine, as long as there aren't too many.

You'll need to retake a D.

I've even heard of people getting in having failed a class or two, but it takes some explaining you'd rather not have to do. In some cases the W is better than the bad grade.

Good decision. Take the Pass.
