So I know that dental schools do not accept grade forgiveness, but I don't understand how exactly they average the two grades, if I earned a D and then retook the class and earned a B, would they just average the grade into my science GPA as a C?

Both grades get counted.

In a nutshell, yes. I think it depends on the number of credit hours the class is, and the averaging is done with the honor points.

Forgive me if I have simplified too much here, but this is the method I used to figure mine out: A D is worth 1.0 honor points, so a D in a 3-credit class is worth 3 honor points. A B (3.0) in that same class is worth 9 honor points. Average the two and you get 6 honor points, which is a C (3 credits x 2 pts).

To really simplify it:

1. You took a 2 credit class and got a C
2. You retook the same 2 credit class and got an A
3. Both count, (i.e. you would get the average, which would be 4 hours of B credit in your GPA) The d-schools still see that you got a C the first time and A the second time.
